Day 195

Just as we were about to go on holidays I discovered I had run out of books to read. Hmmm. I mentioned this to my nail technician (yes, that's what you call someone that does your nails ... I am not making that up) and she strongly suggested I read the Twilight series.

Now, I have no interest in vampires. I have no interest in the supernatural at all. Perhaps that is why I didn't get on the Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, or even the Narnia band wagons. Haven't read any of the books nor seen any of the movies. Yeah, yeah - I may be the only person in the world that hasn't - but it's a bit like not buying the iPhone or owning a 4 wheel drive. I am stubborn in that regard. If everyone else has it then I don't want it. Is that more bulldog coming out in me?

Anyway, so my nail technician STRONGLY suggested I read Twilight. No.

No seriously Leanne, you have to give it a go. The books are fantastic! No.

But I don't like vampire stuff either and I just couldn't put Twilight down. Hmm. ... Umm ... No.

The main guy in the book is gorgeous! I don't know what it is about him, but you fall in love with him. No.

I tell you what, why don't I lend the series to you and you just give it a go. No.

Leanne, these are seriously the best books I have read in a long time. Sigh. Fine! Hand them over.

Can you believe it? I am now reading Twilight. I am reading a stupid bloody (no pun intended) vampire book! I have become a twihard or a twilighter or whatever the term is to describe the bloody Twifans. I can't put it down! I even sneak off to the toilet just for the freedom to read undisturbed.

Hmm. This is not good. What will be next? An iPhone? No. I already know what will be next ... New Moon ... and then Eclipse ... and what's the fourth one called? Breaking Dawn ...

Speaking of which the dawn has broken. I need to get this show on the road. I have a book to read.

  1. No. No no no no.

Leanne, can you believe I am also a stubborn non trend following person who doesn't drive a big 4 wheel drive thing, nor will I succumb to all the Apple mania (despite using a Mac at work for years).

I have a copy of a Twilight book, lent to me over a year ago, gathering dust.

  2. And now that you have started them you won't put them down. Forget all the vampire and werewolf stuff, it is just good escapism.Stephenie Meyer really hit on something, and admit it we all love a bad boy, can't get more so than a vampire.lol. Happy reading

  3. I've resisted, so far. My friends have all read the series and are totally in love with Edward. They all shake their heads at me and look at me with pity while telling me I have no idea what I am missing. I think that is the main reason I have resisted so far. (I think that may make me pig-headed)

  4. I resisted for ages, just started reading and devoured Twilight in a day, New Moon in a day (couple of days later) and have just started Eclipse. I am a supernatural and vampire fan - I know sad at my age - but I just love the way these books are written - vampire or not they are great. Hey Lucy and Vicki - try it, you might like it.

  5. Twilight read in a day - escaping to the toilet, reading while pretending to watch the kids in the pool, going to bed early to "sleep". It is a very simple book but something about the bad boy and the whole love story just drags you in! I am mesmerised. This is shocking ... I'm addicted. I am even dreaming of vampires now ...
