Day 539

This is me in a nutshell: "Help! I'm in a nutshell!
- Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery -

Deep Fried Fruit in a nutshell - some updates:

The problem with having a big Woot Woot Monday is that it can be kinda hard to sustain it.  I was exhausted last night from all that woot wooting.  Well that and the cheerleading session I just coached.

I ended staying up past my bedtime trying to do finishing touches to Tahlia's costume. Until I got the shits when I couldn't thread the bloody needle.  So more of that will be done today to get her kitted out for her Friday night comp.

I'm trying to sustain all that Woot Woot energy to get through the actions I set myself for this week.

I did go to the gym yesterday (check!).  That was fun. Body combat. Love it.

What else?

We're on the final leg of our dyslexia therapy with Darby. His last formal session is tomorrow. The poor kid actually believes that the moment we walk out of the door tomorrow he'll be able to read novels. Shit. I'm trying to explain that it takes time, and work and we've come so far already, but he won't have a bar of it. Hoping then that the belief in being able to read may actually translate into energy which in turn will translate into reality ... off to the library to get some appropriate books for him to practice.

I need to bolt out and get Derek's birthday present today. He is extremely hard to buy for. He wants to be pampered but come present time he baulks at everything preferring to go and buy it all himself. So I'm just going to put a box of international and boutique beers together and wrap it all in cellophane.  We're going out to dinner tonight and then he and I are on a shopping trip tomorrow to buy his new reading glasses and a new suit.  Plus I'll take him to the movies on Saturday night ... might do one of those Dendi things. Never done that ...

I wrote to Mr Publisher in NYC about book 2 contract and draft illustrations.  Mr Publisher CEO came back to me overnight which was a bit heart stopping.  Mr Publisher himself! I left that email to the end as I was a little frightened to open it.  Not sure why.  I am sure it is all fine and dandy ... but you know ... you still get the heebie jeebies.  Anyway, it said "Thank you for sending us the first part of your second book. We will look over the material you have sent us and we'll be sure to get back to you with a decision as soon as possible. Take care and you should be hearing from us again, shortly."  Shit.  A decision? What decision? More waiting.  I hate waiting. I am biting my nails. Actually, no I'm not. I'm sucking on my acrylics (and getting a bit of chicken meat from making the kids sandwiches which is a bonus).  They told me verbally they wanted book 2.  They saw it before and gave me verbal thumbs up.  What decision do they have to make? (Starting to hyperventilate.) Are they backtracking now that I ask for contract? Do they have worries about the illustrations?  Bugger. Deep breath ... and another ... somebody get me a paper bag!!!  Dizzy .... head between legs ...

Ok ... that's better .. breathing now ...

It's all ok. Got some perspective. Currently it is out of my control. Just be patient. It will be ok.

Focus on something else ...

I had a big meeting with Client yesterday.  We are now taking things up a notch and creating a DVD of her product and the proposal which will go out to all and sundry.  I also managed to send off letters of communication to big wigs hoping for endorsement.  And I have written the draft DVD script this morning.  All on track there ...

So that's me in a nut shell.

That's me on this fabulously nail sucking Tuesday ... after my big Monday Woot Woot.

Don't forget to enter the giveaway (if you haven't already).  Check it out here and give me a bit of Woot Woot ....

  1. Oh I get it. That feeling. Those butterflies. That "Oh kill me now" feeling. After all those international beers seem like a good choice of gift now. What do you think?

  2. Leanne, my dear, you are a busy, busy girl . . . and you still have the energy to coach cheerleading?! Amazing! Mr. Publisher is so lucky to have secured your talent, and I'm sure he knows it -- this is your 2nd book, remember -- and all will be well. Breathe. You rock. They know it. We all do. That's all.

BTW . . . I've missed you too! I pop over to read, and watch, in those middle-of-the-night moments when I'm not busy ruminating on the chaos that is life right now -- and you totally make me wish I had acrylics. ;)

  3. Ratz: Husband loved his international box of all sorts .... perfect gift all things considered :)
SoyMami: You're back! Yay. You have your hands full right now. Thanks so much for having the time to stop by. And thinks even more for the beautiful words and encouragement. YOU rock.
PS Acrylics good for finding leftovers, but not if you've recently been changing nappies/diapers ...

  5. Oh, so nerve-wrecking. These publishers have lots of power and they're probably likely to let you know about it for a bit. Make you sweat. But you don't go ruining your nails (or your acrylics for that matter) over it. It will all be okay!

I love that quote by Austin Powers, by the way ;) xx
