Day 984 - Cars Land Grand Opening

Ka-Chow!

Get ready to be floored people, because as of tomorrow, Cars Land is open to the public!

Situated in California Adventure Park the much anticipated Cars Land has officially been opened with a huge welcome from a star studded cast,  Disney executives and media from around the world.

I swear, it's like stepping into the Cars movie. I cannot believe how life like the re-created Radiator Springs actually is.  You will clap your hands with glee when you see the panoramic views of Ornament Valley and all the shops, cafes and icons on Route 66.  And the main attraction - the Radiator Springs Racers - is freakin' awesome!

The debut of Cars Land marks the completion of a five year expansion at Disney bringing more characters, more adventures and more Disney magic into the park, both day and night. Route 66 in Cars Land is approximately 525 feet long (no idea what that is in metres) and 23 feet wide. It's rich with inspiration from the actual Amerian highway.  I swear, the rock formations look legit, and they even feel like real sandstone.

You can definitely get your kicks in Radiator Springs with three-dimensional versions of familiar Route 66 landmarks from the film, including the mountain range, Luigi's Casa Della Tires and Flo's V8 Cafe.  There are three new rides to choose from with something for all ages - the Radiator Springs Racers, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi's Flying Tires.  At night, the whole place lights up with neon signs is bright luminous colours which adds to the authenticity of it all. You just want to grab yourself a Chevy and cruise baby.

Now let me tell you about the main ride.  The cars are made for 6 guests (3 in the front and 3 in the back) and you start off fairly slowly meandering around the desert.  The cars come in eight colours each with its own personality.  Each convertible has either a male or female voice, with different details in the eyes and lips.

There are two variations to the ride, you might get to go in and get spray painted at Ramone's House of Body Art, or you might end up getting your tyres changed at Luigi's Casa Della Tires.  Either way you're taking a tour through Radiator Springs as your engine revs and your wheels spin. They even include the smells in the ride (I swear I was sucking up paint fumes during our spray job).

Once you're all spruced up and ready to roll, you end up challenging another car of riders to a race. Then it's on for young and old baby.  The cars take off splitting onto parallel tracks, zooming nose to nose through the desert landscape.  You go flat chat and part of the thrill is guests will never know who is going to win.  It's bloody fantastic and a huge adrenalin rush.  The entire time you honestly feel as though you are in the middle of nowhere speeding through real mountains ... you even get to drive by Radiator Falls.  And just for a bit of trivia, the attraction covers nearly six acres which makes it the largest attraction by acreage at the Disneyland Resort.

I did the ride twice and I would honestly line up for an hour or more to do it all again.  Before I left for this trip, the Disney peeps told me to "get ready to be floored". Well I can safely say I am fully 100% mouth-gapeingly floored. Cars Land is brilliant.

Stay tuned for my You Tube videos which will feature the full length Radiator Springs ride as well as a montage of video on the other Cars Land attractions. In the mean time, enjoy some of the photos.
