Day 1015 - Checking out the view

Get out your binoculars and check out the view.

(C) Deep Fried Fruit - Checking out the view

After taking Tahlia to the movies on Saturday I thought I should spend some one-on-one time with Darby.  I was trying to think of something "boyish" to do that wouldn't break a nail.  Cars, footy, wrestling, skateboards, dogs, dirt, science, explosions ..... binoculars!

What a great idea.  Let's find a mountain and look out of binoculars. I love climbing hills in winter.  It helps to rise above the winter blues and breathe in some fresh "I'm on top of the world" perspective.  And when was the last time we marveled at the wonder and beauty of Canberra?

(C) Deep Fried Fruit - Canberra
The two of us rugged up against the Canberra ice and headed for Mount Ainslie where we climbed drove to the top and looked out across the ACT.  We played our own version of "eye spy" where we scouted out the National Museum, Questacon, the Canberra Centre, the airport, Costco, the old Olims Hotel, Ainslie Football Club, Mitchell, Thoroughbred Park and Gungahlin way in the distance.  Oh, and the obvious ones like Parliament House, Old Parliament House, the National Library and Lake Burley Griffin of course.

It was fun, but extremely cold, so we finished it up by getting a hot chocolate and chai on the way home. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning.

  1. Nothing like a good hill climb in the middle of winter. We used to do it often when you were a kid. My hill climbs now are walking the Gap Road!
