Day 1059 - Nanna Naps

There is nothing better than a kip on a couch ...

Do you fall asleep on the couch?

I love it.  For me it's the ultimate indulgence. There are times on a Saturday when my Hubby will suggest I go and have an afternoon nap in the bedroom, but somehow that doesn't seem quite so special in my eyes.  Bed is for sleeping and I go there every night for my slumber; whereas being able to snooze of a Saturday afternoon requires a special resting place*. Besides, if I give in and go to bed I may never wake up.

Last night I started to fall asleep on the lounge at around 9.00pm. Husband suggested I go to bed.  But no, in my mind going to bed was standard operating procedure, whereas falling asleep on the couch was kind of like the bonus round.  I woke up a few hours later in the dark, covered in a pool of sweat (on account of three layers of clothing, Ugg boots and doona), and with drool on the cushion.  I took myself off to bed where I promptly fell asleep again feeling like the cat who'd swallowed the canary**.  100% fulfilled. Yeah, there's nothing better than a kip on the coach.

Are you a couch kipper?

* Resting place ... sounds a little morbid. A bit like yesterday's post on taxidermy.  These winter blues may have really taken hold. Eek!

** Cats eating canaries? Again with the dead animal talk?

  1. I totes would if the couch was longer. It's too short even for me.
Also, it dips at one end thanks to the Heavy Teenager.
Fabio often falls asleep in his leather recliner. I chuck a blankie on him and leave him there, it's very comfy apparently.

  3. Or the hammock! Fatigued, I nipped out to the back garden for a snooze while Playschool babysat my daughter. Half way down the rabbit hole I began to feel guilty about being more than three feet away from my toddler so I reluctantly dragged myself out of slumber and hammock and crawled into bed until the show finished.

  4. Hehehe love your honesty. Sweat and drool (sounds like me in a Saturday night). I'm a huge fan of nanna night naps, maybe because I'm a morning person. Long live nanna naps, so lovely.

  5. Yep there is something special about snoozing out of bed. Though the advantages to sleeping on the bed during the day here rather than the couch means it takes longer for munchkins to find you

  7. Sometimes, when I'm lucky, both my little ones nap at the same time. Normally if this happens I run straight to my lap top to get some writing time in. But sometimes I make the mistake of having a quick lie down on the sofa... :-)

  9. I don't get much opportunity to couch nap these days, but I do find myself drifting off while the kids play around me, and get rudely woken by a 2 yr old jumping on me :/

  10. I LOVE my couch kips! Hubby just leaves me there because he has to deal with the wrath of Grace if he tries to wake me up.
My back is completely out of whack when I get up but still. Nothing like it. :)

  11. I'm a big fan of the couch nap. Nothing better than snuggling up with a doona on the couch! Then again, I love sleep so much, I'll pretty much take a nap anywhere!

  12. Yes, totally! I have been known to accidently do it whilst Munchkin is awake, too. Mind you he is totally involved in his DVD and game and completely shut in the room, so definitely safe!

  13. Super jealous!

If I dared to shut my eyes on the lounge for even a second I'd have something rudely inserted into a nostril or ear. Or someone licking my face.

  14. Oh the couch is definitely my napping spot! I love the fact that I can have a quick power nap if I need too, while still being close to my boys if they need me. Even better if they have a movie on and are quite enthralled! :)
