Day 1064 - Visualisation

Can you see the future, or is it just for the dreamers?

Ever since I can remember, even as a young child, I've been able to see the future clearly.  Not in a fortune-teller kind of way, but I can see the way I want my life to go.  I can see the end results. Sometimes it works out that way, and other times it doesn't, but I've always pictured it.  Little did I know at the time that I was embarking on a journey of visualisation ...

Visualisation is a technique used in success training, and is quite highly spoken of in sport.  Having athletes visualise the perfect race, or the perfect game, or the perfect execution of their dive, helps them to focus the mind on the possibilities and concentrate on the action they need to take to perfect their results.  Apparently that practise inside their mind also switches on the areas of the brain needed to engage certain muscles for better muscle memory.  I use it with my cheerleaders before competition to help them remember their routines and believe in themselves and their squad.  I also use it with clients when mapping out their future, setting goals and following their dreams.

It doesn't always work .... but it helps you to aim in a certain direction. For example, I always saw myself on a couch with Oprah chatting about my books and then she went and finished her show so we know that it ain't going to happen.  I also saw myself with Kerry-Anne Kennerley on a similar couch but again ... she's not there anymore ... so ....

But I see things and I believe they will happen, which drives me forward knowing that I'm going to achieve a certain result. The vision might change during the journey (it usually has to adjust) but the important thing is the journey has a bulls eye which gives me aim and focus.  And the MOST important thing is that the visual is accompanied with a great deal of action.

Do you visualise?

Or is it a bunch of mumbo jumbo best left for the dreamers?

I've recently partnered with a person who specialises in meditation for children and we've decided to produce a visualisation CD in the Cheer Chick Charlie range to help kids prepare for competition. I'm not sure how popular it will be (I haven't visualised it yet), but I figured it would be worth a try! What do you think?

  1. "I see things and I believe they will happen, which drives me forward knowing that I'm going to achieve a certain result. Sometimes all we have is faith and belief to get us through the present and onward to a brighter future.

Thanks for articulating this today and I love the look of the blog.
