Day 1132 - Bedroom Update

From child to teenager

You will recall that this week my mum has been at our place helping to transform Tahlia's bedroom from a pink, blue and purple tween room into something worthy of a blossoming teen.  I am very grateful for my Mum.

For Tahlia's birthday we bought her a new doona cover which she chose as the theme for an updated look.  Because of our cheerleading commitments and our Charlie stalls, and because Mum and Dad were floating down the Mekong River, we postponed the bedroom transformation by a month (or so) to get the walls painted . Nanny got that sorted a few days ago and now the bedroom transformation begins. Isn't she a clever nanny! Did I say I was grateful?

There are still quite a few finishing touches to add, like wall art, cushions and perhaps a reading chair, but that will need to wait until Christmas.

From blue walls to Shetland Lace and a new doona cover

A nice clean desk and some birdie boxes

We've also got to work out what to do with all this STUFF Tahlia has accumulated over the past 13 years.  It's currently siting in the spare bedroom. Any ideas? Is there anyone out there who would like a whole bunch of pink in their life?

A whole lot of pink that is no longer wanted (sniff)

More pink with princess pillows, sticker collections, stationery and photo frames.
All outgrown.

This bedroom transformation is so much more than redecorating a room.  It's showing the growth of a child from a life of princesses, fairies, mermaids and unicorns, to a teen wanting a clean slate and a chance to grow.

As proud as I am of my swan taking flight, there's a large part of me not wanting to let go of my baby girl. I am very close to bursting into tears.  (Of course that  could have to do with the spare room I need to clean .. )

My daughter is safe, secure, happy, healthy and growing just like she should.  There's a whole lot more gratitude right there.

If you would like more gratitude pop on over to Maxabella at the Village Voices.  It's a great way to spend your Saturday.

Oh, did you want to see the before photos?  Here they are. Please note - her room is NEVER this tidy.  These photos were taken when the wall decals first went on two years ago. It's been a while since it actually looked like this.
