Day 1226 - New York Toy Fair

Day one is done and dusted (and my feet are KILLING me).

Although we feel like the poor cousins of the group with our comparatively simple signage and basic stand set up, we had a great first day at the toy fair having made some great contacts and befriending some fellow Aussies.  Oh, and I finally got to meet my US branding and product development agent, Cindy Villarreal.

The day started with me introducing myself to one woman who turned out to be a branding and licensing agent who thought Cheer Chick Charlie was "right up her alley". I'm not sure how Charlie will feel about being up somebody's alley but it was a positive start to the day from my perspective.

We also got to hang out with some fellow Aussie exhibitors including the boys from My First Garden who had a chat to us about possibly joining forces with Charlie given we have our "Charlie's Lunch Box" page promoting healthy and fresh food on the website. We also ran into my old friend Cathy from Sticky Wicky who we came across by sheer fluke!  You'll recall that back a couple of Christmas's ago Darby asked for Sticky Wicky from Santa, and not knowing what it was I had to make a tonne of phone calls.  The end result being I had a long chat to the owner about all things business, branding and taking hold of fear to follow a dream. We haven't spoken since (other than a text I sent her on Christmas Day advising Darby was absolutely stoked with his Christmas gift), but it was all hugs today as we stumbled across each other on the other side of the world.

We got to talk to marketing peeps, trade mark attorney's, the head of the parent's association.  We got quite a few contacts for follow up over the next few months.  Nobody came to offer us a multi-million deal or offer to buy 100,000 units (yet), but we did get one POSSIBLE licensing option for Charlie to be on the side of a bottle of shampoo! I'd say that's a great first start ...

Apparently on account of it being day one, a Sunday and due to the blizzard, things were a bit slow today.  We need to be prepared for tomorrow.  That means NO MORE HIGH HEEL BOOTS (you fool Leanne). I am crippled. But geez I looked good ...

Here a few snapshots of the toy fair.  Enjoy!
