1258 - Now is Good

A movie to make you laugh, cry, admire and think ...

We all need a good chick flick to awaken the senses.  The type that gives you the giggles, has you admiring the main character, has you crushing on the bloke, makes you sob your heart out and won't leave your thoughts alone for the days to follow.  The movie Now is Good (being released on DVD and Blue-Ray on 3 April 2013) is the next movie to add to your chick list.  And I've got one to give away!

Dakota Fanning and Jeremy Irvine star in this beautiful romance based on the best-selling novel "Before I Die".  A moving story of a naive seventeen year old - Tessa - who is dying of leukemia. Determined to make every moment count she compiles a list - a bucket list of sorts - of what she thinks every teenager should experience, including losing her virginity and taking drugs.

Once I got over the shock of Dakota Fanning with a British accent and beautiful eyes that didn't glow red (there are no Volturi in this movie) I settled into a night on the couch by myself, box of tissues at the ready.

The movie explores the relationships between a dying girl, her separated parents, spirited younger brother and her peers.  Dad is in denial, Mum has checked out, her brother takes it all in his stride and her best friend signs on for the ride of her life.  The bucket list is somewhat forgotten when Tessa falls in love.  While she may be dying, she has also been brought to life.  Senses awakened, feelings heightened, the heart alive.  Adam may not be able to save her, but while he's around Tessa feels very much alive.  And as with many good stories about a hero and his fair maiden, the "saviour" often ends up being the one that is saved.

So if you didn't get to the movies to see this one last year, then be sure to put 3 April in your calendar for the DVD/Blue Ray release date.  It's a goodie!! If you liked "A Walk to Remember", then this one will blow you away. It's been three days since I've seen it and I still can't stop thinking about it.  As a Deep Fried mother I keep thinking about my own teenage daughter and her longevity, and wondering how I would cope being the parent in this situation.  Not only facing the death of a child, but whether or not I could sign on to her bucket list.  A moral dilemma. For me this movie is not just a love story, but an exercise in self awareness.

Guess what ....

You could win this movie!

The wonderful peeps at Warner Bros have partnered with Deep Fried Fruit for a DVD give-away.  One lucky reader will not only get a copy of Now is Good, but will also get a copy of "Won't Back Down" starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis (I'll do that review next week). Two movies!! Yep, at Deep Fried Fruit we know that life is short (believe me ... I know ... I swear that only yesterday I was 21) so we're giving you more bang for your buck.

To register your interest simply comment below, Facebook me, text, email or tweet (#DFFNowisgood) and tell me one of the things on your bucket list.  One thing that you want to achieve before you die.

This competition is open to Australian residents only and closes midnight next Friday 22 March 2013.

  2. I can't say that I have seen anything about this movie!! But it DOES sound good...

Now, name something that is on my 'bucket list'... I have some, some I'd share and some I'd rather not (haha). As you may, or may not know, I have done a lot of travel, but one of the places I am yet to visit, and I SO WANT to visit, is Machu Picchu, high above the Incas... I doubt I will, but its ok to dream isn't it?

  3. Sounds like my sort of movie. I would love to take my family on a trip to China which included a trek along the great wall and into some of the villages along the way.

  4. I actually want to travel into space, or at least to the edge of outer space. I want to look at Earth from way up yonder & basically phone home.

So, I guess the second thing on my list is to find myself a billionaire.

  10. I want to travel into space. I will need a very high-tech bucket to do this, but maybe it will be possible one day.

A more do-able thing on my bucket list is to cruise around the world on one of the superliners.

  11. You certainly had me thinking with this question! I think one of the things on my bucket list would be to stay at a Safari Park in Africa. I also would love to sew a toy for my little boy- easy for some, but this would be very challenging for this Mum! I love the thought of being creative. :) russellcathryn at yahoo dot com dot au

  12. On my bucket list?
    Hmm, you have me thinking!
If you asked me last year, it would've been to get my drivers licence, but I did that at age almost 33 after finally overcoming my fear!
But now, I'd have to say sponsoring a child from a third world country is on my bucket list. Being in the position to help those less fortunate is high on the list for me

  13. I've just done a non bucket list post last week, with all the things not on my list. I attempted a rather lame bucket list on my approach to 40. So rather stuck for ideas. Perhaps a cruise, which will have to be on my own as hubby goes to sea with work and gets sea sick. lol

  25. My bucket list consists of two things before I depart. Overcome my fear of heights and sky dive 14,000 ft tandem from a plane like my daughter did a few months back. Failing that I could always learn to fire twirl without singeing my hair.
