Day 1261 - Vogue

Would you take fashion advice from this woman?

This is Vogue editor Lynn Yaeger and this is a snap of her at the Rodarte Fall 2013 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at 548 West 22nd Street in New York City. Note: As far as I know the Rodarte Fall 2013 Fashion Show is not a fancy dress party. This was the day of the big blizzard so she can be forgiven for feeling a bit flustered when she got dressed that morning, but as far as I know we didn't lose power in New York that day, so how she managed to get her eye shadow on her cheeks and eyebrow pencil on her lips I don't know! Or perhaps she's been eating licorice?  Either way, I am seriously concerned for Vogue.

I'm no fashion expert.  I am after all very matchy-matchy in the whole shoes and handbag department, and I am finding it very hard to exchange my summer standard of white jeans to something more colourful, but I would have hoped the big wigs in the fashion magazine industry may have had more clue than me. Surely?

Above we have Vogue Editor-at-large Anna Delarusso attending the Tory Burch Fall 2013 fashion show on the same day in New York.  Her coat is perfect for blizzard day, and the belt is a lovely addition, and it's nice to see her make-up is right where it should be. It's the opaque stockings and sandals that has me a bit shocked. We are heading dangerously close to sandal-socks territory here people.

Above we have creative director, US Vogue, Grace Coddington at the Anna Sui Fall Show on February 13.  This was still a very cold day with snow around much of New York City so that coat and scarf are important. And black is a safe choice.  But Grace is the CREATIVE director! I don't think she is being very creative.  And I know for a fact that the snow is no excuse for frizzy hair.  My normally frizzy hair was styled perfectly that weekend because the white stuff brought with it some sort of magical hair potion to keep fly-aways tethered to the scalp. I'm sorry Grace, you look like a perfectly lovely lady, I just don't think you tried very hard.

Above is the head fashion reporter and editor of the International Herald Tribune, Suzy Menkes at the Philosophy By Natalie Ratabesi fall show.  She has a lovely smile and a bit of a twinkle in her eye, but as the head fashion reporter, I'm just not feeling it people.  I feel that she may actually be someone's grandma who has wandered in off the street and she's faked her title when questioned by the photographer.

I have to be honest, I am very disappointed by the lack of fashion sense these fashion writers seem to be displaying.  It's a little frumpy, slap dash and not the least bit elegant.  I'm definitely not feeling like racing out to get a Vogue magazine that's for sure.

Having said that, here is a lovely ray of light in an otherwise grey post.

This lovely "piece of art" is fashion blogger Audrey Kitching.  She wore this to the Nonoo fall presentation on February 12 in NYC. Yes, that was still blizzard day but she's managed to bring a breath of fresh air and a dash of colour into the joint.  As far as I'm concerned our fellow blogger has blown our Vogue peeps out of the water!

As I embrace the journey into being Deep Fried I am thinking I'd prefer to take a bit of pink flowery Audrey with me (her earrings are a "must") rather than the clown that is Vogue Editor Lynn.

You?

Happy Monday!

  1. Sometimes I think the editors mess with our minds with regard to what they put in their magazines versus what their personal style is.
