Day 1380 - Splat

Holiday hibernation.

So here we are in Hawaii on an extended family holiday.  There's the four of us, plus my parents, plus Derek's brother and his family.  Running away from the Canberra winter is becoming a "tradition" and while it is an expensive habit*, I'm not really complaining.  What does concern me is the moment I step away from my projects and into holiday mode, I lose all ability to make decisions.  I lose my business brain.  My creativity disappears.  My blojo takes a walk.  I enter a state of "void".  I just go splat!

It's like my adrenalin springs a leak and I start to suffer adrenal fatigue.  My body gets heavy, I feel nauseous.  The fog settles into the brain.  My eyelids close.  Perhaps it's the fibromyalgia kicking in. Or maybe I'm just plain exhausted and my body is actually shutting down. Or is this just what relaxation feels like?  I go into a kind of holiday hibernation where putting one foot in front of the other becomes a major decision making process.

Not that I'm complaining.  Would you complain about this blogging view?

The Hawaiian view from my balcony as I blog

But I do wonder - is this holiday heaviness common?  Do you go into holiday hibernation?

GIVE AWAY TIME! Win, win, win!!

Don't forget to enter the Oz the Great and Powerful competition.

In celebration of the DVD's launch last week, the good people at Disney are offering THREE of my readers the chance to own their own copy of Oz the Great and Powerful.  All you need to do is tell me why you need some Wizard in your life.  Yep, it's that easy.  You can enter via comment, Deep Fried Facebook, text, email or Twitter using #DFFOz.  Entry open to Australian residents only and competition closes Friday 19 July. Winners drawn at random and announced on Saturday 20 July.

Derek works hard after hours on his EBay store to pull money together for our regular junkets.  It's his "thing".  No matter what financial challenges we may be facing he maintains that his EBay money is for holidays and holidays only.  While ever he buys and sells comics, there will always be holiday time.

  1. Some times that does happen to me. Vacation hits and I'm so tired I can just lay around in different settings. If your body needs rest, there's nothing wrong with giving it lots of rest!

  2. Yes, my brain loves it when I decide to go on holidays, because it feels it deserves a holiday too! Hawaii is one of my favourite places in the world, enjoy your time off!

  3. I think it's normal for people who are really busy to hit a wall when they stop and take a break. It's your body's way of going "Wait, what is going on here!?" Enjoy! -Aroha

  4. I think sometimes you need to make your holiday long enough to allow you to get over being busy and life! so that you can get to where you have some motivation to do stuff. I know I need about 10 days to really relax and enjoy.

  5. Yes! When holidays start, I usually self combust and get a migraine - it's like my body finally relaxes and gets rid of the lures I haven't allowed it to have while I was busy :) Enjoy Hawaii!!!!!

  9. I don't find it falls apart for me, but holidays always make me just want to immerse myself in them and enjoy every spare minute of my family. My inspiration kind of disappears then.
