Day 1530 - Christmas Gifts

So, what do you want for Christmas?

It used to be that I never asked that question.  I either knew exactly what people needed/wanted in their life or I simply gave what I wanted to give (rather than what they were hoping to receive). This year most of my shopping has been made up of presents my extended family has specifically requested. Perhaps I have lost my creativity and imagination and my love for surprises; or maybe I'm preferring to make it totally about them as the receiver rather than also about me as the giver; or maybe I am just plain tired and can't be stuffed putting any thought into it.  I honestly don't know .... I just know that this year I am armed with very specific Christmas lists created from me saying, "so, what do you want for Christmas?"

As for me, when people ask me that question, I have found it really hard to say what I'd like for Christmas. I honestly don't know. I have all that I need and then some. I have a cupboard full of handbags, shoes and clothes.  I have all the hair care products, make up and skin care I could possibly need.  I have chocolates, flowers, perfume and magazines.  I literally have it all.  Except for a suitcase ... I would really like a big shiny fancy new suitcase.  And books .... something to read over summer.  And perhaps a DVD or two. And a holiday house on the water in Noosa.  And an apartment in the Pyrmont area of Sydney.  And maybe first class around the world tickets. But other than that, I want for nothing ....

So, what do you want for Christmas?

Do you request lists or do you prefer to surprise people?

Which one of you will be giving me the house in Noosa?

  1. I am like you. I have everything, but the things I really want you could not ask for - that Louis Vuitton suitcase set is out the price range for most :)

  2. I told Paul that I just want my hair done for Christmas but he said he wants to give me something I can open on Christmas Day as well. So it's back to the drawing board.

  3. I want (and got myself) a pair of roller skates (shhh!). My mum asked me and I really don't need anything - so the fall back is always bath stuff from Lush - I love it but too $$ to buy for myself...

  4. I have quite a few things on my list. With two little ones I rarely get a chance to go shopping. I guess what's on my list is not so much of a treat, just essentials, like new bras! Merry Christmas Leanne :)

  5. Oh I would love a massage for Chrissy this year. With my pregnant belly getting larger by the minute, that is high on my Santa list this year.

  6. I ask people what they want, but when they ask me I get all shy and say I dont know. Secretly I want jewellery, perfume, candles, and anything else girly :)

  7. As I get older I want for less material things and want experience, moments, don't get me wrong a world trip would be fab but it's not going to happen. I would like job security for my hubby and less work for me. Oh and an ENTIRE weekend to myself! Em

  8. Ideally I love surprising people, but sometimes you just have to ask what they really want.
My sister always wants vouchers or gift cards, and I hate not having anything to wrap for her, so always make sure I slip in a little treat as well.
For me, there are never enough books, bring 'em on! xx

  9. I never know how to answer that either. So this year, Mr Surfer and I are just giving each other a $50 budget and the rest of the money we'd usually spend on presents, we're going to save to buy some more art when we go to Bali next year.
I'm not that big on Christmas anyway. Just make sure you invite me along when you get that house in Noosa or that one in Pyrmont :)

  10. I've done a bit of both this year when buying for others - surprises and also getting what they have requested. As for me - there is heaps I would like but everything is too expensive to ask someone to buy for me. When it comes to thinking of something say $50 or under - there is not much I can think of!

  11. When I give, I like to give the things that I've thought of and not all the requested items. But when it comes to being bought for, I think it's a good idea to give people some idea at least. Mind you this year, everything I want are all the things boatman hates buying, such as shoes and a new handbag :)

  12. I'm the same. I don't have any specific requests for Christmas. We just bought an outdoor lounge suite which we've agreed to make as our combined Christmas present. My daughter wants Santa to deliver a Barbie. I wouldn't mind a massage. That would be nice too.

  13. I never know what to request, but a holiday house would be nice :) Sorry I don't own the title to any houses in Noosa ;)

  14. Now that we have less space and we only have what we need to live day to day things have changed for us this Christmas.
There is only one thing that I want this year - and thats my oldest son home safe n sound in February. He is overseas with the Navy, and when he returns I will then feel like its really Xmas.
Love the idea of a World Travel Ticket :)
