Day 1558 - Books

Saying goodbye to a good book

I was given three books for Christmas and I've just finished book number two - Marian Keyes' "Last Chance Saloon".  I can't bring myself to pick up book number three just yet as I am mourning the loss of the previous story.  For the past week these characters have become my new friends, their story has taken residency in my brain and their lives have secretly become intwined in mine.  As I closed the cover on them last nigtht I felt a weird sense of loss.  It will take me a few days to get them out of my system in order for me to take on a new journey with a new bunch of friends.

Do you find it hard to say goodbye to a good book?

  1. It's rare (as I seem to read a lot of rubbish) but I love it when it happens...

  2. So good to get a "good book" recommendation! Love the ones that are hard to leave. Thank you!

  3. I just recently finished Saving Amy by Nicola Haken and it had this exact effect. I just wanted to keep reading and follow the characters for the rest of their journey.

  5. I can totally relate to this! It's why there are some books which I just have to read over and over and over again. I loved the Harry Potter series so much that I cried when I read the last page of the last book and then I re-read it straight away. It's so hard to say goodbye to some characters.

  6. I haven't read a book for a long time, but I know the feeling of having to say goodbye. I found it hard to get straight into another book, when the last was still in my brain.

  7. It was hard saying good bye to Bridget Jones again. You know, after all these years, reading the latest instalment was like a reunion. So sad when I got to the last page!

  8. Leanne, this is exactly how I felt when I finished this book a few years ago! Glad I'm not on my own :)

  9. Keyes is one of my favourite authors - especially when I was single! So hard to put down a good book :)
