Day 1875 - Motivation

There's nothing like a big event to motivate us into action.

Everything is off the back deck waiting to be scrubbed clean, oiled and given some long overdue TLC in time for the party

Whether it's a wedding to lose weight for, a fun run to get fit for, or a Christmas party to tidy up for.  It's great to have a very real deadline to achieve some goals.

Every year we host a big Christmas bash which usually has around 80 people in attendance.

The party takes place on the back deck, inside the house and outside on the front balcony and lawn.  Which means every year we spend the month leading up to Christmas getting the yard ready.

Pruning, chopping, mowing, carting, scrubbing and oiling.  The cubby house gets an overhaul, the trampoline gets a wash, the outdoor furniture gets cleaned, the garden gets a weed, the deck gets spruced up.

All the things we don't do throughout the year finally get done.

Yep, there's nothing like our Christmas party to get us doing the things that have got to be done!

What events motivate you into action?

  1. It's good to throw parties - gives you something to look forward to. Not sure if it makes me get things done - I think I get less done because I'm focussed on the party!

  2. Special events put us into action too. We wanted to have our back deck built before Xmas last year, but didn't quite make it. We made Australia Day though and had a big bash then. Enjoy your Christmas party.

  3. A party for 80 is a big deal - no wonder you are motivated. We haven't had a big party in ages - I might get motivated to do another Chinese New Year fundraiser - I'll have enough time to get organised.

  4. Isn't it funny we do all this cleaning for an event and its going to get trashed ... ok not trashed but it will only look that immaculate for a few hours. Then after it's done we got to clean it all up again but we don't bother with putting as much effort as we did when we first cleaned?

  5. Reading about your Christmas bash plans each year motivates me to get my own plans into gear, Leanne!

  6. I have a wedding coming up that I am using as a focal point to lose weight, plus Christmas as a tidy the heck up goal point!

  7. Sometimes I wonder if it wasn't for big events if I would get anything done! I'm a deadline kinda of girl and Christmas is looming so my backyard is jumping in joy knowing we will finally get out there and give it some TLC after a year of neglect ;)

  8. Oh absolutely! I need a deadline - otherwise I will procrastinate til the cows come home... (or whatever that quote is!)

  9. Oh my gosh, 80 people! That is a mammoth effort! We are having Christmas here this year but only about 25 of us. But yes, it certainly motivates me to brush down the cobwebs, pressure wash the pavers!

  10. It's good to know we're not the only ones who do this, Leanne.
    Have a great party!

  11. A visit from my parents usually motivates a good clean up!
