Day 2026 - Dawn Service Noosa Beach

Lest we forget ...

The sun rising over Noosa Beach this morning at the Dawn Service
It's been a long time since I've attended an ANZAC Day dawn service.  Around 25 years. I was a university student and I had taken a car load of people to the Australian War Memorial.  I remember that it was very emotional (and very cold).

This year we are on holidays in Noosa and as we commemorate the 100 years since Gallipoli we awoke the family at 4.00am to attend Noosa's first ever beach side ANZAC Day Dawn Service.

Thousands of people lined the shore as Noosa locals re-enacted the Gallipoli landing.

Noosa is not Turkey, but just being on the beach looking into the pre-dawn darkness as the waves rolled in carrying boatloads of soldiers gave us a real sense of what it was like.

I think beach side services are appropriate.  There may not be a War Memorial on Noosa Beach but the ocean itself is one hell of a war memorial.  Looking out to the horizon to the expanse of nothing and everything.  Knowing there were wars out there that shaped who we are today and that there are wars still being fought beyond our line of vision.

Thanks for taking the time to help us remember Noosa.

Lest we forget.

The Ode

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Thousands of people attended the Dawn Service at Noosa Beach
