Day 2043 - Deep Fried Styling

It's all in the jacket ...

Us mums wear a lot of hats right?  Sometimes that requires a bunch of wardrobe changes.  Or does it?

I don't like to have to change my clothes. Once I'm dressed I'm dressed. So I try to create basic outfits that only require minor tweaks to go from one role to the next on any given day. For the most part I can get away with jeans.

My change in roles doesn't necessarily change my uniform. I just change how tailored, warm or comfortable I make it.

So here's an example of "the day in the life of Deep Fried Fruit", where I've gone from the taxi driving school/soccer mum who has to spend too much time standing around the edges in the wind; to the "I need to have a meeting with someone kind of important" business owner/author; back to the work-from-home comfort of knitwear where I can curl myself up in a lovely cardigan cuddle as I sit at my desk.

It's all in the jacket.

Same jeans. boots, tee and scarf.  I just switched out the puffy outdoor vest for the tailored business jacket and then finished off in the cuddly long black cardy.  To head out at night I would have switched the cardy for a leather jacket.

So maybe it's not all about the many different hats we wear as mums, but the jackets!

At least in Canberra right now. Holy crap it's getting cold ...which accounts for my general "greyness". I really must add a pop of colour next time.

Clearly I'm a long way from being a fashion blogger (my style is hardly about to grace the pages of Vogue), but this is how I roll through my day without having to go for the major costume change.

It's all about the jacket.

Are you a get dressed once kind of gal?

Or do you find yourself having to make changes all day long depending on which role you're playing?

How weird is the word jacket?

Jacket, jacket, jacket, jacket ... the more you say it, the weirder it sounds.

  1. I have never thought about it but it's origin is from the Middle French jaquet "short coat with sleeves," - there you go!!

  2. Once I'm dressed then I'm dressed for the day. In the same vein, once the pants come off then I'm done for the day lol.

  3. I wish I could say I do this too but sometimes I get covered in vomit or food or snot and I just have to change my top. I definitely agree that layering is the perfect way to change an outfit.

    1. I guess vomit and snot are good reasons to get changed :)

  4. I love jacket weather! I miss this about the North Coast NSW... Our jacket weather is a brief moment in time. I picked up a funky one from a warehouse sale recently and it makes any outfit trendy.

  5. Yes! I'm normally ashamed to admit how many jackets I own but I do like this style of dressing. Just change your top layers.

I wish I'd stuck to my guns for my latest trip to Melbourne and packed more jackets.

  7. Sometimes I'm lucky if I'm a 'get dressed at all' kinda gal. As I'm not working at the moment (and don't have kids) I tend to spend a lot of days at home.

Today, for example - at 1.30pm - I'm still in my PJs. Having said that though, I need to make more of an effort to dress in real clothes each day and get out and about more!

    1. I gotta get dressed. If I don't I may never get "up" again ... PJs would give me a PJ mindset. Getting on my jacket gives me a jacket mindset. I'm a weirdly simple girl like that ...
