Day 2179 - Sweet Sixteen

Happy birthday baby girl.

Sixteen years ago (to the minute) I was in labour.  The final stages.  I won't go into detail but there was a Mighty Vac and forceps involved.  There was also lots of screaming and swearing and the furthest thing from a silent birth that you can imagine.

Sixteen years ago.  Wow.  Where have those years gone?

Our baby girl is an absolute delight.  She always has been.  We nailed it with this kid.

We're buying her a new bike for her birthday.  The vintage kind that are all in vogue right now. She's wanted one for years but it's taken us until now to admit to the fact that she's outgrown her old one.  She outgrew it about four years ago to be honest.  But you know, we hold onto that tiny thread of hope that our kids are going to stay kids forever.

So yeah, she's getting a bike.  We've just got to wait until her preferred colour is back in stock.

In the meantime I've had to think about what else I can give her on her special day.

What does she dream of?

I noticed that her calendar page for today is about travel.  "Little by little, one travels far". Perfect for our baby girl.

I know what she dreams of ...

New York.  She dreams of New York.

The runways of New York, Paris, London, Milan, Hong Kong.  She dreams that her modelling will take her to those places and if that doesn't work out then she dreams that her back-up plan of marketing and advertising will get her there.

So we've decided to give her New York.  Or at least, we've decided to give her some travel bits and pieces to get her excited about our trip to New York at Christmas time.  We're spending Christmas with our friends in Pennsylvania this year and we'll be flying into NYC for a few days beforehand.

Travel document wallet, bag tag, travel journal, passport cover and eye mask.

Today is my daughter's Sweet Sixteen and I couldn't be prouder of who she is, what she's achieved and who's she yet to become.

Happy birthday sweetheart!

I hope all your dreams come true.

(No matter how much you grow, you'll always be our baby girl.)

  1. Modelling is a tough game but what a clever young woman to have a back up plan if she decides it's not for her. Happy Birthday!

  4. Happy Birthday to your beautiful girl. My daughter is 15 - it's both beautiful and difficult watching them become their own individual. Going to New York will be awesome - enjoy it! :-)

  5. She's just gorgeous and it looks like you both have a lovely relationship. She also sounds sweet and down to earth which will be important in the modelling game.

NYC at Christmas sounds wonderful and I'm sure you'll all enjoy it!

  7. What a beautiful post Leanne. I love how much you are showing your daughter that what she wants to do can come true with all the preparation and work. She does seem a 'natural' from her photos. From my FB and IG stream I now know that she shares this day as her birthday with at least 7 others ....see my blog post!! LOL D x
