Day 2184 - Elle's advice to her children.

Being a role model.

I absolutely adore Elle McPherson.  After reading her interview in The Australian Women's Weekly in September, I love her that little bit more.

One question she was asked was "what lessons do you hope to have passed on to your children?" to which she replied the following:

  • Let your heart guide you.
  • Create, don't destroy.
  • Be pro something, against nothing.
  • Be aware - treat people and yourself fairly and with kindness.
  • Be self-responsible and self-aware.
  • Have a pure work ethic - love what you do and do what you love.
  • Drink lots of water.
That sums it up really.  Words worthy of a canvas smack bang in the middle of the lounge room wall.

We all have values, words of wisdom and life lessons we'd like to pass on to others.  The things that help us to live our best life.

But sometimes our own best advice can get lost in the fluff.  The drama or a default position can steal our  wisdoms.

Thinking about what we'd like to pass on to the next generation is a great way to remind ourselves of what really matters.

What lessons do you hope to have passed on to your children?

Are you living your life true to those words?

  1. I have no problem being against a lot of things. I hope my kids take from me that they should stand up for what they believe in but also be open to being wrong- it's how we learn :)

    1. I balked when I read that point too. I was thinking, "surely she doesn't mean that". Then I read it differently. I read it more as a "concentrate your energies on leading (be pro something) rather than using your energies on fighting (against nothing).

  2. Some great lessons in her list but I think I agree with Amy, it isn't a bad thing to be against something.

  3. I like the create something, destroy nothing thing - people are so picky about others when they're at least giving it a go....

  4. Love what you do and do what you love is something I have encouraged my children to strive for.

  5. I'd like to think that I treat people kindly and that my children do the same - it's been a bit of a learning curve, but we're getting there!

  6. No kids as you know but if I did I guess it would be about being true to yourself. Living a life of integrity etc...

  7. Always be true to yourself. You will lose people along the way but they were never meant to be a part of you anyway.

  8. Not to be afraid of life. Since my mum died I have lived in fear of pretty much everything and I don't want that for my boys.
