Day 2212 - AC/DC Rock or Bust World Tour

Last night I was back in black and I even got thunderstruck as I headed down the highway ...

Yes, I joined the throngs to ANZ Stadium as we got our Acca Dacca on and in the process I crossed another item off my bucket list.

I was around 11 years of age when I was introduced to AC/DC by my babysitter.  She would take ABBA off the record player as soon as she entered the house and replace it with a bit of head banging.  I didn't appreciate our Rock Gods at the time, but they grew on me.

It's taken me a long time to get to see these guys.

Sydney was awash with concert goers.  "Awash" being the operative word.  Damn rain.

Despite the rain, the bleachers were pretty much full and the mosh pit was pumping.  Hell, there were even a whole lot of boobs on display and one woman who appeared to be wearing a reverse g-string while riding on some poor blokes shoulders.  So very rock n roll (?!).

I preferred to keep my underwear on (and around the right way) as I donned as much black and denim as I could find.

Back in Black
A very large majority of the crowd were in black including the band. Except for our resident school boy. Angus Young was decked out in a red velvet version of his iconic school uniform.

Red seemed to be the highlight colour of the evening. The crowd was full of light up red devil's horns which definitely added to the atmosphere and gave us a good idea as to just how strong the numbers were.

Getting back to Angus Young ... Wow!! Now that dude can rock! He played a guitar solo at full speed for AGES!  It went on and on and on. He was pumping, jumping and sliding. Seriously, how old is he?  That's a rocker with stamina.  Oh ... and that hopping dance he does across the stage ... I am totally going to use that as my new leg workout.  His legs are bloody amazing

In rock we trust

They played a bunch of new songs from their Rock or Bust album, but also played the favourites.

My one disappointment was they didn't play "It's a long way to the top".

We waited and waited because I was convinced they'd do it as their final encore.  But alas the lights went on and the stage was packed up before I admitted defeat and left the stadium.

Clearly they forgot to bring the bagpipes.

What was the last item you ticket off your bucket list?

Seen any good bands lately?

Why no bagpipes?

  1. It looks like a great night - the last gig I went to was Counting Crows earlier this year. It was at the State Theatre and a very intimate affair. I love the atmosphere of a big stadium gig but now I'm an old fogie, I love it when I can just sit down, do a bit of chair dancing and enjoy the show!

    1. I admit it ... I was in the sit down section. Always in the sit down section ... with a toilet nearby (damn tiny bladder).

  2. Really?I can't believe they didn't play it - that's weird. Did they play Jail break? That was my favourite (and the first song of theirs I heard...)

    1. Didn't play Jail Break either, much to my Hubs disgust.

  3. That sounds awesome. Except for the reverse g string, because that's just not right at all! It has been so long since I saw anyone play, I'm lucky to get out of the house at night time 3 times a year. I saw Leonard Cohen 2 years ago, and he was sublime.

    1. I hardly see any bands. The last one I saw before these guys was Pink about 5 years ago. Yeah, we don't get out much either.

    1. I know!! Unless they sung it on one of my many trips to the toilet ... but I'm sure they didn't. Those bagpipes would have found me in the Ladies for sure ...

    1. Thanks Lisa! Was feeling fairly rocktabulous. It was an awesome crowd made better with all those red horns around the stadium.
