Day 2252 - Santa Monica

When LA turns into more than just a transfer lounge.

So our flight out of Sydney was 2 hours late because some sort of pallet got stuck in the under compartment of the plane (or something) which means we arrived into LA late and missed our connecting flight.

The airline obviously got us on the next available connecting flight for JFK but an 8.40am flight turned into a 2.00pm flight.

What to do, what to do?

Go to Santa Monica Pier of course!

So what was to be a transfer turned into a day trip in La La Land.

So we did what we normally do in these situations and went on an adventure.

We could have caught the town bus from LAX to Santa Monica Pier but it was all a bit much for us jet-lagged-no-sleep peeps so we caught a cab instead.

For $40 USD (each way) you can go down to the pier and also have a wander around the mall and the Third Street Promenade shopping area.  The bus would have been HEAPS cheaper (from memory around $3 a person) but hey ... we were at the end of our tether.

It was a lovely blue sky (a tad chilly) winters California day!

  1. What a great idea! LAX is a place I spent about 5 hours in back in 2006 by myself and I couldn't even check in my luggage. Glad you got to sight see. I must say i did "LA in a Day" on the way in and that was enough! Have fun. Merry Christmas. Denyse xx #teamIBOT

  3. Sometimes its worth the money to just jump in a taxi! At least you are making the most of your layover time there, better than sitting in an airport for hours, feeling frustrated! I had just 2 days in LA when I was there in September but didnt make it to Santa Monica unfortunately so you've seen more than me!

  4. I love that you made the most of the situation. I didn't know that LA ever got very cool.
