Day 2296 - Good affordable bras

Do you need a new bra?

The older I get, the less I care about wearing lace and frills and being all sexy and going all matchy matchy in the underwear department.  There it is. My un-sexy little secret is out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still not wearing "cottontail" spotted undies with a dirty old raggy bra or anything ridiculously "aged" like that, but I'm also not wearing the lovely purple lace bra with matching purple lace g-string either.

These days I'm all about firm well put together comfort.

This quote is a hand-me-down from Facebook. No idea of its origin.

Which is probably a good thing given the whole serial killer fascination with sexy matchy matchy.  Let's call it a self defence decision shall we?

So when I'm buying bras I'm not that interested in spending a lot of money nor am I looking for anything that requires a delicate wash.  I'm looking for something that looks nice, is comfortable, can be worn all day without the need to swap and that I can wear with at least 95% of my clothing. Oh, and it's gotta hold me up.

Enter the Kmart sports bra two pack.

As far as sports bras go, this isn't a very sporty looking bra.  It looks just like a basic everyday under wire t-shirt bra.

What I love about it is that it's made from thick comfortable fabric, it has smooth lines, it's under wire, slightly padded and has decent straps.

I love the way it holds me all together while giving a slight push up effect and there's nothing itchy about it.

You can also clip the two straps together at the back to give that racer back style for when you're wearing those cut-away summer singlets.

The best news is you get a two pack (one black and one white) for the very low price of $19 total.  That's $19 for TWO bras that will last at least 12-18 months of regular use.  Honestly, I wear these two bras constantly, day in and day out, with 95% of my clothing.  They call them a sports bra but to me they're an every day bra.

The only time I'm not wearing one of them is if I'm in one of my "pull everything together" shape wear petticoat dresses or if I'm full on into exercise mode which is when I wear my really big and very firm Cotton On sports bra (I don't like even the slightest jiggle).

So there you have it.  You now know what's going on under my clothes.

I told you I was cheap.

Tell me, are you in for comfort or do you like the pretty kind?

Perhaps you've found a bra that is both?

  1. I like the pretty kind but I seem to have just black and white plain ones at the moment...hmmmm

    1. Mine was a slow transition over many years. Not a single coloured bra in my drawer now. I'm a plain Jane.

  2. I've been wearing breastfeeding friendly bras for three years and then some. Most of mine are very Unitarian but I do have a few hot milk brand pretties! These are quite the bargain!

    1. There hasn't been a breastfeeding bra in my house for ten years. Wow. That's a long time when you say it out loud.

  3. I am all about comfort too and only recently bought a white lacey bra - only because it was the only bra that was comfortable and fit my new shape. I still wear my breastfeeding bras but soon I will be needing to bin them. Will check out these Kmart bras. They don't look sporty, more of an everyday bra.

    1. Yeah, they don't look sporty at all. I'm not sure they'd be a good sports bra to be honest. A great everyday bra though.

  4. For me it's the Target 10 pack high-cut brief (so comfy, neutral shades) and those latest stretchy aerobics type bras without wires. Comfy! Nothing really matches but I am a happy lady in them! I will never buy lace or g-strings or cacky-looking underwear that itches, scratches or shows through my outerwear.

    1. I'm gonna track down those Target 10 pack high-cut briefs you mention. I need new undies.

  5. I've turned to bras without underwire now after years of wearing uncomfortable push up bras in a vain bid to boost my A cup. There are similar non-underwire bras at Kmart that are comfortable yet still give some shape and support. I recently went through my underwear drawer and finally got rid of many of my pretty matchy-matchy sets. I wasn't wearing them anymore and nod there is more room for the comfy sets!

  6. Good bargain for sure. I'm wearing sports bras a fair bit of the time these days. I still have a bit of lace though.

  7. I'm actually on the hunt for a bra that actually fits: holds me up, not me holding IT up, it doesn't squash my boobs flat (like many sports bra), gives me some shape, without being a push up - I don't need my boobs in my face, and I can wear it under a multitude of outfits. I no longer care how much it costs, I would just like it to fit!

  8. I am loving the bonds T-shirt bra at the moment.

  9. I'm going to give these a try - I'm always on the look out for comfortable bras. They are surprisingly hard to find, lace or not!

  10. That's a darn handy recommendation, thanks! There is simply nothing better than a comfy bra. Probably showing my age, but give me comfort over lace and frills any day!

  11. Being of the more "well endowed" side of the spectrum, I often find it hard to find decent bras that are cheap. Target have a 3 pack and while they were "okay", I'm not completely happy with them. I still have some of my beautiful lacy numbers, I don't wear them and never will again but they're just too pretty to throw out!
