Day 2362 - The Lovin' Life Linky: The BIG BIRTHDAY BASH edition #lovinlifelinky

Woot woot!

During the week my husband celebrated a BIG BIRTHDAY milestone.  It was one of those BIG BIRTHDAYS that end in a zero.  It was so BIG he almost didn't want to celebrate it at all.  In fact, he tried to claw his way back through the aging vortex to a time when the shorts were short, the socks were long and the hair was seriously questionable.

Last night we hosted a retro basketball themed birthday bash for the man of the house to not only reminisce on his past sporting greatness but to grab the next half century by the balls and power into the game with nothing but three pointers, slam dunks and a master defense.

A retro basketball party definitely needs retro basketball cakes

I have to be honest, he wasn't handling this whole turning 50 thing too well. But by last night the celebration and acknowledgement of who he was, who he is and who he is yet to be turned his mindset from one of commiseration to one of celebration.

I mean, who wants to be at the arse end of a decade with one of those stupid 9 numbers when you can start fresh with a big fat 0 and a brand new set of ten to play with?

A milestone birthday is a great excuse to show off how fabulous you are with a big ol' wall of fame.
We couldn't believe how many press clippings we found in the National Library of Australia "trove" website spruiking Derek's basketball accomplishments.
I love zero birthdays and I love a good party.  Even ones where I need to hire my own personal recycling truck to cart the evidence away the next day.  (My apologies now to my neighbours who I may have forgotten to warn about the BIG BIRTHDAY celebration.  I hope the 80s disco didn't keep you up too late?)

If you're wondering what a retro basketball themed party looks like then just Google "retro basketball costumes" and you'll get a pretty good picture of what our party looked like.

I wish I could show you more pictures of our bash here but I didn't actually take many photos myself.  I left that to some of our guests who will no doubt get the party evidence to us in the next week or so.

Here's a quick shot of me dressed as a basketball ref complete with
my 80s perm.  Can you guess who calls the shots in our house?
Anyway, that's enough from me. I am feeling far too dusty to continue with this typing malarkey. Plus my body is in serious need of a hot tub (or possibly a wheelchair) from all the very athletic dancing I did last night.  Oh, and then there's that cleaning up to do ...

So it's time to hand it over to you.

What are you lovin' about life this week?

If you're a blogger then feel free to link up a post that reflects what you're lovin' about life.  It could be a moment, a picture, a conversation, some food, a product, a dress, a hobby, an event, a place, a memory or a person - it's all about reminding ourselves what's good in our world.

All bloggers are welcome! Fashion, food, beauty, business, personal, parenting ... whatever ...

If you're not a blogger then feel free to use the #lovinlifelinky hashtag to tag instagram photos or tweets about the things that are making you smile.  You can also click on some of the Lovin' Life links below and see what else is in the blogosphere.  You might be able to add a few sites to your reading list! So much to love ...

  1. Leanne, l know whan l turned the big 50 nearly 2 years ago l decided that l didn't want a party instead l went overseas and celebrated with 7 of my best friends and it was fantastic. l had a family dinner when l arrived home. l wasn't at all concerned about turning 50 as it's only a number but l know so many people are totally freaked out about the big 50. Your husbands party sounded amazing and your outfit was great . Loved the cake to , did you make it? Enjoy the rest of your day and hope there's not to much mess for you to clean up as there is nothing worse than cleaning up while over tired and slightly hungover xx

  2. Oh wow, it looks like so much fun!

My brother and I grew up playing basketball. Indeed our lives revolved around it our entire childhood. My dad was a footballer but when it became obvious that my brother's passion was bball he got involved. Both my brother and played rep stuff, though he played for Qld (and I only made the squad!) and was in Australian squads when under 21 (and his knees gave out!). I SO remember the days of tube socks, basketball briefs etc...

Love your costume AND the hair!!!
