Day 2404 - The Lovin' Life Linky - Books, Movies and the Nation's Capital

Three cheers for a quiet weekend.

This is the first weekend in forever that we've had no plans.  Where we've just woken up to a blank diary and been able to create whatever we want out of those white pages.

The boys decided to head to the coast to get some last days of surfing in before the water completely loses its summer warmth.

So my girl and I decided to cruise through a weekend of "why don't we".

It started with me having a very relaxed and comfortable brunch with fellow blogger Lydia C Lee who just happens to be hanging out in the nation's capital this weekend.

I felt like I'd known Lydia forever when in fact it was the first time we'd ever clapped eyes on each other.  I guess when you read each other's blogs for so many years you do get a sense of knowing a person.

After I got home from a lovely breakfast of ricotta and berry pancakes,  I said to T "why don't we go to the Play School exhibition at the National Museum".

"Sure" she said.

So we did.

You can read all about the 50th birthday celebration of Play School exhibition here.

After lunch I said "why don't we go to the library and you can finish your assignment and I can cruise the aisles."

"Sure" she said.

So we did.

I picked up a bunch of new chick lit books to add to my bedside table while she put the final touches on her school assessment due tomorrow.

For dinner I said, "Why don't we have vegetarian bunless burgers".

"Sure" she said.

So we did.

In fact, I haven't eaten meat since the boys left on Friday afternoon and I haven't missed it at all.  I can see where my vego daughter is coming from.

Then I said "why don't we have individual TV viewing tonight".

"Sure" she said.

So we did.

I went to bed and watched "The Rewrite" starring Hugh Grant and Marissa Tomei which I thoroughly enjoyed and have a serious hankering to watch again, while T snuggled up on the couch for an evening of back-to-back T stuff.

We miss our boys but sometimes it's nice to ditch the steak, footy and action movies for a weekend of culture, vegetarian meals, chick flicks and a great big pile of books.

What are you Lovin' about Life this week?

    1. We made them at home. A store bought vegetarian patty on a bed of lettuce, avocado, tomato, cheese, betroot etc. But --- McDonalds Create Your Taste has a bunless option where the contents are wrapped in a bit lettuce leaf. They don't have a vegetarian burger patty yet though ... so Tahlia fills hers with avocado, pineapple, beetroot, tomato, cheeses etc.

  3. That sounds amazing! I love quiet weekends where nothing is planned. It's so good just to relax and catch up on the TV I missed during the week or watch Netflix. This week I'm Lovin' my April Beauty Faves! :)

  4. Oh that sounds lovely. I'm at my mum's which I have been doing often on weekends recently... just to get out of my apartment and away from the caretaker who drives me batty.

I'm trying to decide whether to 'convince' mum that we should watch some DVDs tonight. I've just veged and had more planned but spent much of the day in bed cos of 'ahem' THAT time of the month.

I actually did more tourist stuff when I lived in Canberra than I did at any other time in my life. I had lots of visitors and can't remember how many times I went to the art gallery, QUESTACON (sp?), Parl House etc...

The mother-daughter time sounds lovely as does the catch up with Lydia!
