Day 2489 - Best Birthday Ever

Do you have a favourite birthday?

Not my best angle ...
As I sit here at Day 2489 of constant daily blogging I reflect back to the birthday that started it all.  My 40th.

I started blogging the day I turned 40 as a way for me to navigate through midlife.  What started as a tongue in cheek look at the pitfalls of the ageing process has become a positive space for embracing all that life has to offer.

I can honestly say that my 40th birthday has been my best birthday ever.

The party itself was huge.  We hired a function room at a local golf club and everyone came dressed in either black or red or a combination of both.

We hired a sound system to play my favourite music which had a big dose of Prince, INXS, AC/DC and everything 80s with a dance floor big enough to ensure there were some very sore muscles the next day.

My friends and family came from all over Australia.

There was atmosphere, there was friendship, there was love and there was one hell of a celebration.

I had spent much of my 39th year doing a bunch of things to ensure I hit 40 with positivity and a sense of accomplishment.

Ok, that's a little bit scary

Yep, we're having a good time ...

Since that party I've spent every day embracing the ageing process.  This blog is a testament to that.

As I creep slowly towards my blog's 7th anniversary I reflect back on the birthday that started it all.

My best birthday ever!

Do you have a favourite birthday?

What parties have you had?

I LOVED 40 (in fact in my mind I haven't aged a bit since).  What has been your favourite age?

  1. OMG I didn't even recognise you. That is you? Right?

I haven't actually had a memorable birthday, I'm turning 46 this year, so it might be time to do something about that.

  5. Happy birthday to you and your blog! I am looking forward to my 40th birthday party, I have mentally designed the invitation, planned the playlist and the theme already. I've been lucky enough to be overseas for a few birthdays - 23 in Amsterdam, 30 in Thailand, 32 in Hawaii . . . pretty memorable.

  6. I love your positive approach to ageing Leanne. I did not know that you started blogging on your 40th birthday and that you'd been diligently blogging for so long since then. Well done on all counts!

  8. Leanne, the photos are great!!! So nice to see you enjoying yourself!
My favourite birthday would've been when I turned 33 because my parents and sister bought me vouchers for driving lessons. Up until then, I'd had a phobia of driving, so I struggled to get around (and with kids, it was so difficult) but I overcame my fear and got my licence on my first try!! :)

  9. I wouldn't have recognised you!!! Looks like you had a blast. I ran away to a deserted island for my 40th LOL. Well almost, we had a beach holiday for a week at a nearby island, just getting away from it all, which was exactly what I needed at that point in time. I don't know if I can pinpoint a BEST birthday, but I've blogged about some of the bad ones I've had! http://www.middleagedmama.com.au/bad-birthdays/
