Day 2639 - The Lovin Life Linky - Happy New Word!

What's your word for the year?

It's been five years I've been doing my Happy New Word.  This will be my sixth.

As I said at the end of 2016, choosing a word can single handedly be the best tool for keeping us on track to achieve our goals.  IF we choose our word wisely.

I had more than one word last year for a double barreled approach to life (onward and upward) and it served me well.  2016 was by far the best year we Langdowns have had in a while.

This year I decided to find the shortest word I could.  I figured I'd stick with the KISS principle and all that.

I was going to choose "DO" so that I could quite simply get my Nike injection and Just Do It.  But as a success consultant I know that "DO" is not the key to achieving goals.

The key to achieving goals is "BE".

We are programmed to believe that if we DO the work, we will HAVE the results and then we get to BECOME the person we are hoping to be.  Whether it be a good mum, a great employee, an author, a business person, an artist, a kick arse project manager, a talk show host, a fashionista - whatever it is we are aiming for - we have always been taught to DO what is required to make our dreams come true.

I call bullshit on DO.

I mean, Nike does have a point.  "Just Do It" is a great approach to life and it is definitely required. After all, there is no great success without great action.  But DO is just part of the equation.

If we truly want to achieve our goals then we have to BE the person we are hoping to BE from the get go.

It's all about mindset.

Want to be an author? Then BE an author in mind, body and soul.  BE an author in practice. BE an author in attitude. What would a fully fledged author do in any given situation?  Find out and BE that person.

Studies have shown that if people BElieve in themselves they are a gazillion times more likely to achieve results.  Perhaps I made up that statistic, but it sounds feasible.

There is a great big dose of BE in believe.

So that's my word for this year.

BE.

I am going to BE the author, BE the magazine editor, BE the nationally recognised blogger, BE the soccer mum, BE the mumager, BE the household manager, BE the best friend possible, BE the good wife, BE the active grandparent, BE the lovin' life leader.

Why?

Because this year I quite simply want to BE the best me that I can BE.

What's your word for 2017?

What do you think of my teeny tiny word?

Who are you going to BE this year?

Are you ready to join us as we Love Life?

  2. BE ..is the best word! I used to be (ok, still am I guess) a DO person...and that comes with achievement, work ethics etc. Be is much harder actually. To let BE and to BE me, no matter how uncomfy that is. I have learned more about being Me by my most recent two years of LIFE experiences. This post is perfecto for next Monday's link up "word for 2017" on Life This Week. Welcome back LLL ...love BEing here! Denyse

  3. I think BE sums up what I tried to...uh... be, last year and kind of failed for reasons outside of my control. I was listening to a podcast yesterday and they were talking more about problem identification over problem solving, which really helped me start thinking about where I want to look this year.

  4. I like the zen-ness of the word be. In fact, one of my fave quotes ever is one by Henry Thoreau: "Being is the great explainer."

  5. This is a great motivational and inspiring post Leanne. I think I needed to read that!

  6. Love your word Leanne, mine is "Enough" - last year I chose "Embrace" because I wanted to be out there doing everything - but this year I want to just be grateful for what I have and to build on that - slowly and peacefully. Striving is exhausting so I'm aiming at thriving instead.

  7. Wow. Be is a great word. I was thinking 'honesty' might have been my word, particularly in terms of expressing who I am through my blogging as I grow in confidence as 'a blogger'. But now that I've read this I'm not so sure. 'Be' is so empowering! I can BE honest as well as anything else I want to be. Why stop at one thing? I agree. This is a very inspirational post!

  9. BE....I love it! What a wonderful goal - to just BE AND BE the best we can BE. My word for this year is Simplify. I want to step back and simplify all areas of my life so I can enjoy each moment.

    1. Simplify is a big part of my household goals this year. I am also going to BE the home decorator and get the house into order and simplify as much as possible.

  10. I love your choice of word and explanation behind it Leanne! I used to choose a word for each year. Two have been 'believe' and 'trust' but one year I felt off track and didn't feel the word guided me so I haven't chosen a word since. I might return to the practice one year though because I've been even more off track since I stopped doing it! #TeamLovinLife

    1. I was always a goals person, but I'd get off track. The word really helped me to stay focussed. But it's really important to choose the right word. I chose "solutions" one year. IT was a hard year. Of course it was ... because to need solutions you first had to have problems. There were plenty of those. Damn it ...

  11. I love it. Positive, empowering and applicable to all situations.

  13. Such a short little word but packs a big punch me thinks! I would also like to BE many things, but I think the main thing I wan't to BE this year is good person and not sweat the small stuff. :)

    1. Definitely enough to sweat about in this world without adding the small stuff to the list.

  14. I love the idea of a word for the year. Be may be small...but it's definitely very powerful!!

  15. You can BE anything! Have a great year.

  16. Ohh, I really love your thinking behind "BE". It really resonates with me at the moment. I'm trying to stop worrying about whether it's too early for me to try to build a community around my blog - that it's not good enough or that I don't know what I'm doing. I'm just believing in myself.

My word for the year is from you and it's "focus". Hopefully this will help me as well. Thanks Leanne!

  17. Great choice Leanne!
I am hoping to BE more focused, kind, and non-judgemental.
