Day 2646 - The Lovin' Life Linky - January Edition

What's happening this month?

Can you  believe we're half way through January already?  We're almost at the point where it's too late to wish people a happy new year.

I love January.

January means summer.

January means spending quality time with my children.

January means late nights and late mornings because there's no school.

January means champagne, eating out, regular visits to the coast and little trips around NSW.

January also means it's my boy's birthday - he turns 13 today - where we get to dote on this lad who brings so much light into our lives.

Happy birthday to my boy - he has the world at his feet

This year January has had many challenges.  Little challenges like the dishwasher breaking down and Netflix having a temporary conniption, and big challenges like the death of a friend's father, a mate's heat attack and of course the paralysis of our fur friend*.

January is pushing me out of my comfort zone considerably this year with the impending launch of my children's magazine (I wake up each day feeling slightly more panicked as the deadline approaches) and my new position on the executive of our local football club.

January is bringing me new experiences with yesterday's trip to see Aladdin** and last week's wander around Bundanoon.

For me, January is quite ambitious and serious this year.  It's not as laid back as it would normally be and it seems to have thrown a few curve balls,

As with any new beginning, January is giving us hope, promise and wonder with a decent dose of challenge and fear.

January is a great month to set goals, create lists, pursue dreams and confront challenges.  It's the month we get a blank notebook in which to write the story for our year.

January is the gateway to a year of Lovin' Life.

What does January mean to you?

Who's being pushed out of their comfort zone this year?

Got any great day trips planned?

*  Alfie is making small improvements each day.  He still can't move his back legs but he's getting stronger and there is light at the end of his doggy tunnel.

** Come back tomorrow to read my Aladdin review.

  1. So glad to hear that Alfie is improving! January is such a fresh start, isn't it?

    1. Today he is walking all around the house. We're having trouble keeping him sitting, relaxed and calm (which is essential for his recovery). A bit like having a toddler on a plane to be honest. The moment they discover they can walk it's impossible to keep them contained.

  2. I'm still, for the most part, rather clueless as to what day it is. I'm guessing that will change next week, when my client work resumes.

    1. LOL. I hear that! I'm not sure of what day it is either. I am acutely aware of the date though. Damn deadlines.

  3. Yes I hear you! Almost midway through January and back at work thinking "what am I doing here"? I have actually resigned from my part-time job to focus more on me this year. Does this sound selfish? I need a break from continually trying to please others and look after number one. What a great start to the year. Good luck with your new magazine.

  4. Happy Birthday to you son! I hear you on January being the time for clean slate and excitement/terror about the year ahead..it was always like this when I was working. What's been interesting with no more work in my life is that months have no real feel to them any more. I kind of miss it but dont at the same time. This time of January as teacher/principal me..meant our week on a holiday by the beach and then returning and getting my head around the work to plan for the start of the school year. The memories are strong! Glad to hear of improved pet health too. Have a great Thursday! Denyse x

    1. I can imagine that as a teacher January would have had so many implications and feelings attached to it. I had a cuppa with my editor last week who is also a school librarian/teacher and she was getting ready to head back this week to start planning prior to the week of PD.

  5. Two teenagers! I'd say that'll be a challenge, but your kids both sound like good kids!

I'm mixed about January. I hate summer, so I hate the heat... though I love the holiday vibe from most people.

I do appreciate that it's a good time to set new goals etc though so like that, though am feeling a little overwhelmed myself re what I want to do and how to get there.

    1. My kids are actually very easy to have around. No teen or tween issues at all (touch lots of wood). How's the holiday vibe up there on the Fraser Coast right now? I can imagine there's quite a good energy right now.

  6. I love January Leanne for most of the reasons you have mentioned - the holidays (even though I don't have younger children), champagne of course and the longer days. They will be gone too soon so I'm making the most of them. I'm very interested in your Children's Magazine and can't wait to see it. Good luck with all your dreams this year. 7. January has gone in the blink of an eye! I've been taking it very easy so maybe that's why :)

  8. January is so different for me now than how it used to be now that my kids are all grown. I'm so glad Alfie is improving. Poor little mite! Happy Birthday to your teenage boy! Good luck with all the exciting things happening in your life Leanne! Busy girl! xo #TeamLovinLife

    1. Thanks Min. My boy had a great day and is now heading to the coast with his cousins for a few more days of celebrating. Birthdays last a week in our house.

  9. January seems to have blended right into December, it feels like the crazy busy hasn't ended. After this week, things will settle down again, and by the time the kids go back to school, life will slow down considerably. I have just come to realisation, I'll have a lot of book covering coming my way in a couple of weeks. Joy!

  10. I love January cos it's a big arts month for me - already had my first Festival show (in Russian, no less) and got a string of other theatre commitments in the next week. Swimming. beaching and bars. It's a great start to the year! Sorry about your dog - I seem to have missed something?) and congratulations on the magazine! You don't stop! Happy birthday to the teen.

  11. I love January too - for me it's usually when I'm on holidays, all the Christmas palaver is over and done with and it's time to chill out for a while. I love the warm weather and the sunshine. Good luck with all your endeavours and I hope your son has a fabulous birthday - welcome to the teens for him x

  12. I love January except for the heat. When Christmas is over it's so great to think about what the new year will bring, and the possibilities of the year ahead. Like you I can't believe that it's the middle of January already, though I am still wishing people a Happy New Year! Hope your Children's Magazine sets off with a Boom! Good luck! Bon Chance! Here's cheating from the sidelines :)

  13. Oh crikey - damn prescriptive text!!! Here's Chearing from the sidelines! not 'cheating' !! The last time my Mac let me down was in an email to my sister when I thanked her for all the "crummy" food! I meant Scruffy! - oops there goes my Mac again - it should have read SCRUMMY!

  14. January is often a busy month for me when I'm at work but I often manage to take a few days off each year and they are magical, especially in the Sydney summer. Everyone even seems a little bit less stressed and frazzled even if they are back at work.

  15. Happy Birthday to your beautiful boy. January has definitely caught me by surprise this year. It's usually quiet and relaxing, but this year I've been prematurely inundated with work. I'm not complaining, I just wasn't really prepared to be so busy just yet :) #TeamLovinLife

  16. I do love January because I always feel like it's time to organize!! However, it's winter here, but I love that I get to wear my sweaters (especially the ones I knitted!)

    1. The best thing about winter is the big woolly jumpers (sweaters). I'm not one to knit my own though. Happy for others to knit for me though :)

  18. Fingers crossed for your magazine Leanne!
I'm getting pushed way out of my comfort zone this January, but let's stick to the usual January things. I've worked out my 2017 running event calendar and I'm doing a bunch of online courses to help get my blog out there and to become a running coach, which is all very exciting!

  19. What a challenging time for you! Just reading the snippet at the bottom about Alfie, I hope he recovers very soon. For me, January means keeping my energy up for the post Christmas slump, which is as much mental as physical! #LovinLifeLinky
