Day 2653 - The Lovin Life Linky - The Netflix edition

My name is Leanne and I'm a Netflixer

About a year ago Chelsea signed onto her Netflix account at our house and never signed out. While it took the kids about 30 seconds after her departure to start trawling through the Netflix vault, it took me a good 9 months or more to tip toe in for a look-see.   Now it's quite possible I'm addicted.

I blame it all on Virgin Airlines.

On one of our long haul flights last year I stumbled across the first six episodes of the TV show "Suits".  I watched them in quick succession and when I started to salivate after the final credits rolled, I knew I was hooked.

Of course Virgin Airlines is not the only Suits provider. The problem is that Suits is now up to Season 6 on mainstream TV and the only way to catch up is to buy the box sets.

Unless ......

Hello Netflix!

So that was a very long way of saying I'm now addicted to Netflix.  So much so that I can safely say I'm a Netflixer.  Each day I can be found partaking in some form of Netflixing.

What I love most about Netflix is that it remembers where you're up to.  There is no need to read the episode details to work out if you've seen it yet.  There is no stopping and starting and swearing when you realise you've missed a few eps.  Netflix KNOWS what you've seen and what you haven't.  It's organisational skills and time management capabilities alone make it my new best friend.

My Netflix shows of choice are Suits, Designated Survivor and Gilmore Girls.

Suits is just for me when I want to watch TV on my own. Designated Survivor is the show the Hubster and I watch together. Gilmore Girls (the original) is for the kids and I to binge on.

I'm not a true Netflixer.  I don't watch entire seasons in one sitting because there ain't nobody got time for that. But I do dabble in it daily. And I have been known to stay on the couch for a little too long after the final credits roll making it super hard to tear myself away as the next episode starts.

Netflix is one of the things I'm lovin' about life right now.

Do you have Netflix?

What are you watching right now?

Ever binge watched an entire season in one sitting?

Anyone else addicted to Suits?

  3. Ugh! I hate Netflix, there's nothing on it. Not even Die Hard. I mean, come on! So far we've only watched Blackmirror on it. On Apple TV however, we've watched a number of movies, the excellent The Night Of, Dirk Gently (so, so) and Westworld (also so,so). As we love Blunt Talk and Better Call Saul, I'm wondering if we would have been better going eith Stan....but apparently these will end up on Apple TV soon too....

    1. We've since watch Designated Survivor - it's a great idea but executed like a soap opera...It got a bit much but we'll no doubt watch season 2 just because nothing else is on....

  4. I have not yet PAID for my Netflix (or as we call it nitflex just for the heck of it!). I was always concerned about the download costs and speeds but in 2015 I had it for under a month and watched (and became addicted to) Downton Abbey which had never appealed when it was on TV. I watched solo, on my iPad mini and with some buffering from time to time but it was awesome. Then BOOM! No more Downton on Netflix. I couldnt find anything else of interest so I cancelled. Still free. Mid 2016 I re-joined for a bit (free!) to watch some of Chelsea Handler who I used to like on pay TV. Nah, nothing else took my interest. left it. THEN...with some reluctance but hearing some GOOD things about the series the Crown, I joined under as new email address (still free) and watched it. LOVED it. I did not binge watch because I wanted to savour it and I did. THEN...I worked out how to get our family room TV to set up for Netflix and my husband who was a nay-sayer before is finding movies to watch. I am not using it at all on the iPad now but we did watch a movie together last week. The download costs are probably going to be OK with the NBN package we have and the buffering is almost non-existent now so perhaps they have improved things. I seem to think we will continue after the free one month and actually pay for it.

    1. We have our internet with iiNet and Netflix is unmetered, meaning we can watch as much as we like and it doesn't come off our download limit at all. It's fantastic (and if it did come off the download we'd prob have to get rid of it coz we would totally exceed our monthly GB limit!

  5. Yes I LOVE Netflix! I dedicated an entire blog post to it recently- recommending Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (based on Douglas Adams books, loosely). Lydia, Dirk Gently is on Netflix (just read her comment above)!

  7. I signed up for free month a couple of weeks ago, and I haven't even had a look yet! I know the kids would love it, but I haven't shown them yet either!
I don't watch that much normal TV, mainly at night if there's a movie on, or cooking shows (I am looking forward to I'm a Celebrity, starting again this year). Not sure if I will continue and pay for Netflix if I am not using it right now.

  9. I ADORE Netflix. I only got it after I moved (in November) and have discovered SO many new shows. I didn't have pay TV before so there were a lot of things I didn't see. I'm also enjoying the Netflix shows... I'm currently watching Sens8.

  10. No I don't have Netflix but I would like to watch Suits as I've heard so many good reviews of this TV series. We have Foxtel so I have been watching a Boxset called The Affair which is pretty addictive and I also watched A Place To Call Home recently. I remember the good old Gilmore Girls - I loved them!

  11. I love a bit of Netflix! I just finished watching The Crown and loved it. I also started watching Suits and got up to season three I think before I got distracted by something shiny. It's also great for comedy, I'll watch stand up shows when I want a laugh.

  12. My daughter got me signed up to Netflix just before we went on the cruise. I wasn't sure I'd use it much but how wrong was I. I LOVE IT!! I watched the new season of the Gilmore Girls, a heap of Xmas movies, The Crown series, Grace and Frankie series, some of How to get away with Murder, and some of The Shadowhunters (based on a series of Young Adult books that I read of my daughter's) ... and more! I have heaps of things added to my list. I am loving it! :-) #TeamLovinLife

    1. Shadowhunters is surprisingly not too bad, hey. Especially if you've seen the abominable movie they made of the first book a few years ago. The series is way better.

  13. Oh my goodness, this made me smile - I've had several friends sign up for Netflix lately (with a month's free trial!) and I was SO tempted. Our internet has been rubbish lately so I haven't made the plunge - what scares me is getting addicted and never seeing the sun shine again! :)

  14. I don't have Netflix, but I so want to get it. When we move it will be top of my list, and I'll become a binger, I'm sure of it. Downton Abbey, Last Tango in Halifax, A Place to Call Home, Indian Summers - I'm a box set girl, but a Netflix Wannabe! #teamlovinlife

  15. I have just finished binge watching The Queen on Netflix and absolutely loved it, was quite devastated when the last episode was done. Moving on to Victoria now but had to grab it from another source unfortunately.

  16. Looooove Netflix! Couldn't live without it now. In fact if we could get all the NRL games via Netflix or some other streaming service we would totally five Foxtel the flick, it just can't compare! Mine and Dave's fave show at the moment is Shooter, it's really good. We've just finished watching the one and only season of Firefly and now we need to find something new to watch. My brother recommended Designated Survivor tonight and now after seeing you recommend it to I think I might have to nudge Dave in that direction.

  17. We watched it fairly regularly until life got too hectic and we renovated, sold houses, shifted and now that we're semi settled, painting and unpacking we haven't got back to it. We were watching Orange is the new black and Orphan Black, but I don't miss seeing them now. We did binge watch, but not a whole series at a time lol.

  18. So I have to admit that I have never watched netflix (does that make me old fashioned??)
We do sit and watch tv for about an hour every evening, but I love HGTV and some of the mainstream channels!! And that's my time to knit--yippee!!

  19. I haven't dabbled in netflixing as yet but I just love that jumper! I remember when Lost was out, I totally binged on that and I was supposed to be packing my house up to move! #LovinLifeLinky

  20. Our son has Netflix, so I'm now wondering whether we can log into it! I'll have to check that one out. I've resisted getting any kind of pay TV as my hubby would just watch sports all day (and weekend) long if he could. I'm trying to minimise my time in front of the TV, so I really don't need the distraction with so much to do ... but Suits sounds like a show I'd love too #torn #TeamLovinLife

  21. We only got Netflix after I finished uni last year - if I had gotten it while studying and working it would have been BAD haha. I am very particular about spoilers so I rarely talk about TV shows online though.

  22. I think it was Valerie Khoo from the Australian Writers Centre who thanks Suits for her great arms - every time Harvey said "Goddamn it!" she did 10 pushups.

  23. It's raining here today - great day for Netflix!!

We have Netflix but don't watch it too much - although my youngest is off to school this year so it might be a dangerous distraction from housework while I am by myself ;)

  24. I love Netflix....my daughter signed up for it and it took me ages to get onto it and watch anything. I love Suits and Designated Survivor too but also Homeland, Blacklist, House of Cards (must watch if you like Designated Survivor) and the daughter got me onto Prison Break as well!

  25. We delayed Netflix because we had Foxtel and it seemed extreme to have both, then I managed to bully Foxtel in taking $20 a month off since we've been with them so long, and so Netflix was introduced. I've enjoyed The Crown, The Bletchley Circle, Designated Survivor, Stranger Things, The OA and I'm currently LOVING Black Mirror.

  26. No, I've not got into Netflix. With working fulltime and blogging I wouldn't have the time anyway so Anne is definitely not the only one.

  27. We don't have cable at my place (way too expensive) but we have Amazon, Netflix and Hulu and that's all I need. It's got pretty much anything I'd want to watch on demand, so I'm happy.

  28. I'm procrastiwatching reruns of series 1 of the Good Wife at the moment - when I should be writing. I curse the day it came into the house...;)
