Have you heard of the Kakadu Plum?
We all know that Vitamin C is damn good for us during cold and flu season, and it's also great for our ageing skin as it helps with collagen production and reduces the effects of sun damage.
So the Kakadu Plum may well be the next super food for this ageing positively gig.
The Kakadu Plum is also called the Guinge, Billygoat Plum and Murunga and as the name "Kakadu" suggests, it grows natively across the top end of northern Australia.
Of course the Indigenous people of Arnhem Land have known about the magic of the Kakadu Plum for thousands of years, using it in healing, as an antiseptic and as a basic source of bush tucker.
The good news is the trees are still in great abundance and the fruit comes into season at the start of the dry season (May).
They say it's the richest source of vitamin C on Earth with 3000mg of vitamin C per 100g of fruit which is 50 times more vitamin C than the humble orange.
It's also high in anti-oxidants and bioactives which makes it a very super super-food.
I hear that major health and cosmetic companies have discovered its power and it can now be found in skin and hair care products, vitamin supplements, pharmacological products and in gourmet condiments such as chutney and jam.
