Why just have a book launch when you can have a party?
It seems quite unbelievable as a self published author to be releasing Book 9 of my Cheer Chick Charlie series. But yesterday I did just that at Dymocks Belconnen.
Dymocks Belconnen was the first book shop to ever stock the series, so it was a great feeling to head back there to launch my latest work.
I felt it was deserving of a party. Not just a book signing; not just an author visit; but a fully fledged party to celebrate how far this series has come.
Each time I write a Charlie book I fall more in love with the main character. It honestly feels like she's living inside of me and writing the stories herself.
What I love most about Charlie is not just that she is spirited, kind, energetic and wise, but because she's fun! That's not to say she doesn't have her fair share of problems. Each book shows how she grows through the challenges while she continues to make her dreams come true.
Which is why I love writing about her so much. Even though she's only a character in a book, somehow she manages to motivate and inspire me to continue writing new stories through her perseverance and love for life.
My fans do that too. Whenever I get a fan letter, or get tagged in a picture on social media of a child reading a Charlie book, or when parents write to me telling me how much the books have helped their child to learn to read or feel good about themselves, I feel motivated and energised to keep on writing.
Which is why I felt like a party was in order. I wanted to thank Charlie, the fans and the book shops for pushing me forward even when I've felt like the self publishing journey was just too hard.
So without further ado, here are a handful of pictures taken at yesterday's book launch party. We were so busy celebrating we didn't take a whole lot. But you get the general idea.
