Day 2779 - The Lovin Life Linky - the theme song edition

Do you have a theme song?

The other night the hubster and I were sitting in the hot tub listening to some tunes when "The Whole of the Moon" came on by The Waterboys.  You know the one?

I pictured a rainbow
You held it in your hands

I had flashes

But you saw the plan

I wandered out in the world for years
While you just stayed in your room
I saw the crescent
You saw the whole of the moon
The whole of the moon

It's a nice little ditty but I can't say I've ever really sat and analysed the words.

My husband said "this song always reminds me of you".

It does?

Apparently before we met he only ever saw the smaller stuff and never aimed very high. He only ever saw the crescent. I helped him reach higher and opened his mind to the possibilities. I saw the whole of the moon. Or something. Isn't that sweet?  He's a keeper.

I love that he has nice songs that remind him of me.

There are a bunch of songs that remind me of him too of course. One of the first songs he ever introduced me to was "Downstream" by Supertramp.  As far as I'm concerned that is our song.

Once when we were in Melbourne at a hotel we asked the piano player if he could play it . He did. We were actually a bit surprised that he knew it.

A year later we walked into the same hotel and the piano player was still there.  We saw the recognition in his eyes and he gave us a small wave. Without a word between us he just started playing it.  It was magic.

Took a boat Sunday, down by the sea
It just felt so nice, you and me
We didn't have a problem or a care
And all around was silence, everywhere

Today as our eldest daughter heads into surgery to have her fourth sarcoma removed, I think the theme song for today might be "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten.

It was always a cool song but it became even cooler for me when teenager Caly sang it on Ellen and in America's Got Talent because it was the song that helped her fight cancer.  She gave the song extra power for me and every time I hear it now I get tingles of emotion and an overall feeling of "let's do this!" runs through my veins.

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me

That's what I'm lovin' about life this week.  The fact that music can help us express our feelings and it can also help lift us when we're down.

Do you have a theme song?

What song reminds you of a loved one?

What are you lovin' about life this week?

  3. Sending all the good vibes for the surgery!
My husband played a song called "sit beside you" when he proposed :) But "our" song was the one we danced to first at our wedding. Stand by me, by Ben E King.

  6. Funnily hubby says that song reminds him of me too. Eternal Flame reminds me of him. I have songs that remind me of people set as their ringtones e.g. The ringtone I have for my boss and s Pet Shop Boys Pandemonium.

  8. Oh wow....what a song and I am sending allllll the good and healing vibes to your lovely one facing her further surgery challenges. I have many songs to remind me of love and what has happened in our lives...but one is from 1970 and it was "This guy's in love with you" and when we asked the band to play it at our wedding for our dance they hadnt heard of it so played "More" instead... Music is very much part of our lives too. Big hugs Leanne..this is one hard day for you and yours I know. Denyse xx

  9. I hope Chelsea's visit goes well today. I think songs have an amazing ability to take us places and remind us of people.

I don't think I have a theme song but there are certainly songs that remind me of various stages of my life.

And how great that the piano player remembered you years later!

  12. Love your theme songs - and that your husband had such a lovely one for you. My husband was a DJ at a little country town radio station when I met him and he played Queen's "You're My Best Friend" for me and I've loved that song ever since. And I hope the op goes fantastically today xx

  13. Hope Chelsea's surgery goes well - sending lots of love and strength :) Right now I'm listening to a radio station that only plays songs from the 60's to the 80's and I can hardly concentrate because they bring with them great waves of nostalgia, emotion and memories. I totally get what you're saying :)

  14. My life song is probably "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship (80's classic) - it was played at our wedding too :-) I think it's another great song for your eldest daughter!

  17. Wishing your daughter a fearless recovery, Leanne!

I don't have a theme song right now so much as a soundtrack. La La Land, it's making me smile and has put some pep in my step. I've seen the film twice and the album is on in my car everytime I drive.

  18. I think I cried for an hour after the first time I heard that Caly sing with Ellen. Hope things go well for your daughter. And I love the story about your hubby saying that first song reminds him of you.

  19. I LOVE your story about your song! To me, music has so much power (got a blogpost lined up about it in next couple of weeks in fact!). It can invoke so much emotion (good and bad). My 'theme' could possible be Stevie Wonder Sunshine of my Life. But I've got so many faves for various reasons, it's near impossible to choose! Thanks for hosting this lovely linky and for sharing with #HighlightsofHappy
