Day 2827 - Wellness Wednesday - Have you done your boobie check?

Let's talk about breasts

I've been reading Love Your Sister and have spent a good part of my reading in tears. Not because I'm sad, but because I'm touched.

I bought the "Love Your Sister" book at the "Big Heart Project" back in May.  You may recall I wrote about that event here.

The book journals Connie and Samuel Johnson's brother/sister bond through Connie's multiple bouts of cancer.

Because I'm seriously interested in the real life stories of others, I'm finding it a damn good read. But of course it's more than that.  It's more than just a story.  It's the recognition of a bond so great that it's created a movement.

My tears are coming from the depth of their relationship, their positive attitudes, their brutal honesty, their incredible bravery and their love and hope for something greater through the unfairness and shittiness of cancer.

My tears are also coming from the great strength of community they have discovered across the length and breadth of Australia, from the west coast to the east coast, from the northern most tip to the southern most bight and from our highest peak to our lowest point.  The generosity of Australia to help find a cure for breast cancer makes my heart swell with pride.

I'm touched.

So what better way to segue into the need to be touched more often.

My topic for this Wellness Wednesday is to remind women to check their breasts regularly for abnormalities, changes or tenderness.  Early detection is the key to fighting breast cancer.

To get more information about breast cancer and early detection you can check out the following:

Or simply Google "breast cancer Australia" or visit your GP.

To join the Love Your Sister Village, buy the book, grab some merchandise, donate to research, or to learn more about their journey, then head to the website at www.loveyoursister.org

Connie's battle is likely to be over soon but her fight will not be in vein with the legacy that she and Sam have created through the Love Your Sister initiative.  If there's one thing they want out of all this above all else, it's to encourage women to check their breasts more often.

When was the last time you checked your breasts?

How breast aware are you?

Have you done your boobie check?
