Day 2894 - The Lovin Life Linky - Movie Edition

Do you go to the movies in the middle of the day?

How often do you head to the cinema?

There was a time when I would wait for the family diaries to align and pick a weekend way off in the future that ultimately ended in disappointment as our chosen flick had already left the theatres.

Never in my wildest dreams would I contemplate going to the movies in the middle of the day in the middle of the week.  And never ever on my own. I mean, who has time for that?  Are the cinemas even open?

But this year things have changed.  This year I've stepped into a new world of "ditching work" for a middle of the day movie treat.

Admittedly my "work" is whatever I want it to be on any given day so heading to the movies is relatively simple. It doesn't change the guilt though as my projects lay in wait for me at home.

It all started with a trip to Sydney to chaperone the model daughter where I had to fill in a day and find cheap parking.  It turns out I was able to get four hours free parking if I saw a movie so I bought a tub of popcorn and wandered into The Magnificent Seven for my first ever middle of the day on my own shoot-em-up. The cinema was eerily empty.

From there I progressed to La La Land and a choc-top a month or so later.

It turns out this middle of the day middle of the week movie caper is actually quite easy once you get started.

Then last week I progressed from doing it alone to doing it with other people.

I saw Gifted with a group of girlfriends (which by the way is the best movie I've seen in a long time) and then yesterday the husband and I went on a mid-week date to Dendy Premium and indulged in a catered lunch and The Hitman's Bodyguard.

What is going on? Could this be my new favourite thing to do?

Of course my projects are all sitting at home waiting for me each time I recline in the cinema, but it's definitely adding an element of fun to my life with just a dash of rebellion.

Do you go to the movies in the middle of the day?

How often do you head to the cinema?

Any movies you'd like to recommend?

  1. Going to the movies alone in the middle of the day is one of my favourite things to do! Admittedly I haven't been able to in ages, but it was such fun when I could!

  3. I do love the movies, but getting there is rather a challenge at the moment. I keep missing the movies I want to see. Perhaps I should just go during the day too! Must look at the previews for "Gifted" :) #TeamLovinLife

  4. I love going to the movies on my own. Haven't done so in ages. I think it's time to change this.

  5. I love going to the movies - we started going in shifts on the weekend when the kids were little - I'd go to the first session on a Sunday morning and then my partner would hand over the kids in the foyer as I came out and he went in. I actually honestly probably prefer going to the movies on my own as long as there's no one in the seats around me - it works like meditation for me. I come out relaxed and happy. (I think it's to do with the focus and removal from reality). I'm off to Kingsmen with the Middle Child, for some dedicated focus on him time...Rarely going on a week day but often think about it.

  6. In the distant past when I used to work night shift at the hospital I used to see movies in the daytime by myself but I haven't done this for ages now. I much prefer seeing movies with others so I can discuss it with them afterwards.

Last week I saw Gifted too and absolutely loved it!

  7. Well I wouldn't mind going in the middle of the day but work might have an issue. I have no problems going to movies or eating out or any of that alone.

  8. I started going to the movies alone when I was first semi-retired. I actually liked doing that over being there with anyone else! I even went to Gold Class once. Nice idea to continue this I think Leanne!!

  9. My husband and I loved going to the movies and yes even did a few middle of the day attendances. However, lately nothing has taken our fancy in terms of movies that we MUST see. I do admit I love Gold Class and that little bit of luxury. My cousin goes to the movies on her own and I think I would if there was something I really wanted to see. I mean once you are there you get involved in the movie so you don't really need company do you?

  10. I think I've mentioned on my blog / in social media, I've had this weird rule about not watching TV / reading books etc during the day. I think it's cos I feel like I shouldn't be having fun at those times, but working.

I'll be interested to see if that changes when I got back to full-time work and feel like I can relax on weekends or on days off! (But yes, I used to love the movies during the day when no one else was around!)

  12. The last movie I went to was "The Time of Their Lives" starring Joan Collins and Pauline Collins. I went with a girlfriend in the middle of the day in the middle of the week and there was only one other lady in the theatre with us. We had lunch before the movie. Lovely outing and great movie too! #TeamLovinLife

  13. I like afternoon movie dates - then we buy takeaway on the way home and we're still tucked up in bed at our normal time (boy I must be getting old!) We went to see Atomic Blonde a few weeks ago with Charlize Theron - it turned out to be much better than I expected (altho there was a LOT of blood and gore and butt kicking!) She rocked the whole Jason Bourne thing!

  14. Such a good idea. We do need to indulge and take the time to see something that we really want to see - and perhaps our partners would rather not. But I also like going along to a daytime movie with He Himself if the weather is too hot or too rainy for outside pursuits :) Great reminder x

  15. oh no never to the movies during the day. Maybe when I was younger and my sister I were allowed to go to the movies in "town" during the school holidays. But not now...too much else to do! I would rather go in the evening, but not too late. Have a great week, and thanks for the link up.

  16. I love the movies but living where we do our attendance is irregular. Daytime movies are such a fun thing to do, I actually prefer that time to night time, it feels more decadent. Enjoy!

  17. I rarely get to the movies, & to be honest, don't really like going that much - even though I know I should. I tend to prefer to pick them up later or at home or in a plane. I know, weird...

  18. I've not been to the movies during the day in a very long time. It's something that I loved to do, but sadly don't have the time during the week anymore.

  19. Now that we have a big TV, I can't even remember the last time I went to the movies at all. However, I almost never watch it during the day.

  20. I haven't been to the movies in ages - and I've also never been to the movies by myself. Definitely one I will have to try next time work is a bit slow!
