Day 2948 - The Lovin Life Linky - Princess for a Day Edition

Let's all be princesses for a day!

Two months ago the big grown up (step) daughter received the shocking news that cancer number 5 had invaded her body and was lodged in her spine.  After having spent all year battling cancer 4, it was gut wrenching to find out a new one had appeared so quickly, let alone in a spot deemed inoperable.

Anyway, not quite knowing what to do to lift her spirits, I wondered if perhaps she might like the opportunity to be a princess for a day.  Something to take her mind off the constant cancer battle and help her to feel beautiful, treasured, pampered and loved.

So I did a call out on Facebook to see if any of our fashion industry contacts (thank you model daughter) might be interested in helping out.  The idea was to do a photo shoot for Chelsea all dressed up in ball gowns with fabulous hair and make up.

The response was overwhelming and extremely humbling as people came through offering their formal gowns, their services, their time and even food for photo shoot day!

A lady by the name of Kartika Medcraft offered to project manage it all and gathered a team of creatives to help out.  She had a photographer, makeup artist, hairdresser and ball gown designer all lined up, ready to make Chelsea feel special.

The photo shoot took place last Sunday up at Mount Stromlo Observatory in the ruins of the old Yale Colombia dome which burned down in the 2003 Canberra bush fires.  Perched on the top of Mount Stromlo with its textured walls and amazing views. it made the perfect castle.

We don't have the official photos yet, but here are some behind the scenes pics to show you just how special the day was. To have these people volunteer their time, their art, their garments and their support was incredible.  To see Chelsea and Lola shine - priceless.  It's what I'm lovin' about life this week.

So with all this princess magnificence I thought, how cool would it be if we could all be princesses for a day?

Don't wait until you're sick, or feeling sad or battling bad news ... why not grab a group of friends, get frocked up, do each others hair and make up and head off to a fabulous location and just take photos of each other.

Do something that makes you feel special, like royalty and take a whole bunch of photos to remember the day.

Let's all be princesses for a day!

Have you ever had a photo shoot?

Where would your ideal photo shoot location be?

Do you know anyone who deserves a day like this?

Update: Chelsea will be having revolutionary surgery next week to remove the T12 Vertebrae and its cancerous inhabitant.  That part of her spine will be rebuilt with some caging and fancy silverware. We look forward to sharing good news with you once the surgery is complete.

  1. What a fabulous idea to help lift Chelsea's spirits, Leanne! Sometimes we can feel helpless in these situations, but it's so wonderful that you thought of doing this to at least help her feel amazing ... even if it is just for one day. People can be incredibly generous, particularly when there is a need such as this. Both Chelsea and Lola looked gorgeous.

... and yes, it would be fabulous to be a princess for day. Love the idea of getting a group of friends together to take pics :) #TeamLovinLife
