Day 498

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki
Where in the world would you go?

Ok,. Grab your cuppa.  I'm having a green tea which apparently is laden with caffeine.  I'm a bit bummed by that, but will get the caffeine free variety next time. I know, I know, with all my bitchin' about fatigue I should rejoice at the caffeine injection.  It's just that I try to keep it to a minimum cause of my migraines and stuff.

Interesting fact: Did you know that if you don't have a migraine (and you're a migraine sufferer) caffeine can cause one, but if you do have a migraine and it is in its fully blown stage, caffeine can actually help fix it.  There's a whole scientific explanation for that, which I read about once, and I kinda remember it (something to do with blood vessels constricting), but I'm afraid I'll stuff it up and it'll be on the internet forever adding to the falsehoods already floating about, so I won't write it just in case.  Anyway, that is still an interesting fact ....

So since we're sitting here having a cuppa and all, it might be worth talking about something cool.  How about world travel.  Where in the world would you like to go? If you could choose anywhere, where would it be and why?

As you know I have Hawaii on my vision board for this year.  The good news is that vision is quickly becoming a reality. Our flights are booked as is our hotel.  It's all sorted.  We're going baby and their ain't nothin' you can do about it.  But why Hawaii? It's not very adventurous. I've been there heaps of times already. Why go back?  We definitely don't go there for the beaches.  Australian beaches are heaps better.  The atmosphere is pretty wonderful.  You can choose high energy or complete brain freeze.  Well, we go to Hawaii quite simply because it's become Derek's and my special place. We renewed our vows there in 2008 on a Waikiki beach, and then went back in 2009 to the Big Island for our second honeymoon.  It's the place we go to truly get away, switch off, and feel spoiled.

Now my parents on the other hand prefer the more adventurous holiday.  They did Machu Picchu and the Amazon Jungle a few years back, they've done the Milford walk in New Zealand, they've done trekking through Thailand, the train through Vietnam, and last year they volunteered their time building a cyclone proof community centre in The Solomons.

Makes my holiday sound pretty sucky, huh?!  If I could choose a non-sucky very adventurous holiday, combined with a bit of international community work, I'd probably choose Ethiopia.  Ethiopia has been on my mind since I was a child as it was the country of focus for world hunger back then, plus we sponsor a young girl there, and I am also very interested in one day helping out at "The Hospital by the River"(Fistula Hospital) run by Catherine Hamlin.

I just spun the world globe for a bit of fun and landed on Chennai, India.  Cool.  Looks like an interesting spot to visit. What the hell happens in Chennai?  (That is the question I just asked my husband).  He said "Cricket!! Specifically, parts of the World Cup".  Bugger. I just chose cricket as a must see world destination.  Anyway, after further investigation it looks very interesting and quite cultural.  But no.  Probably not. I think we'll stick with Hawaii.

So, as I drain the last parts of my cuppa, I'll pass the conversation over to you.  Why not spin your own globe and find your overseas holiday of choice.

Where in the world would you go?

  1. I really, really want to go on a tropical vacation. Someplace with white sand beaches, clear blue water, and warm ocean breezes. Aaaahh someday...

  2. Ah. Hawaii. A friend of ours just moved there last week. Can we say "jealous"?

N and I want to go SO many places. I want to visit Australia and New Zealand, Belize and Switzerland. So far we only have definite plans to visit Belize, as we've informed our families this is where we will (finally) get married (in 2019) but I imagine we'll be going there far sooner than that. (Not to get married, but to visit.)

I love hearing your thoughts! Keep them rolling in :)
