Be careful what you wish for ...
I have been known to say "I love a good challenge". In future I think I need to be careful what I wish for ... Let's just say I have been presented with a major business hiccup this morning which is one of the most "fascinating" situations to date.
Tomorrow I am being interviewed/filmed as a finalist for the 2012 Canberra Business Point awards. Then tomorrow night I am speaking at a Canberra Business event about my business - how it was formed, the wins, the challenges etc. Well - I certainly have a bloody big challenge to share.
Right when Charlie is taking off and I am being "judged" for business of the year, my website has gone down ... and not just gone down ...but my hosting account has been suspended.
I write this as I am on hold to their help desk. My website designer is currently overseas (on a well deserved holiday) and I am here with no technical knowledge whatsoever trying not to throw the phone with it's stupid on-hold messages through the window.
Seriously ... there is no good time for a website to go down, but mine seems to pick the worst. Four days after Charlie was launched back in June, she was being presented on the big screen to a crowd of over 2000 spectators at a big cheerleading event in Queensland. My website went down for 48 hours that weekend due to "maintenance". My website designer had a huge dummy spit with our hosting company on my behalf. She decided then and there to change providers. I thought we'd give them one more chance ...
Silly me.
It has gone down another two times since then (that I am aware of) and here we are again ... just when I am being judged for the ACT Micro Enterprise of the year award ... I have no website.
Just when I am going to be filmed about my wonderfully successful business venture ... I have no website.
Just when I am going to be speaking about the wonders of being in small business ... I have no website.
Just when I have customers wanting to buy Charlie's stuff on a daily basis ... I have no website.
They suggested I focus on the challenges of small business during my presentation tomorrow night. That won't be a problem.
I have one thing to
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
Now it's time to run ... I have some challenges to face ....
In the market for hosting right now. Recommendation (or lac of) noted and appreciated. Cheers
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I could help! I am finally up and running again but it's been a seriously frustrating day.
ReplyDeleteOh you poor thing, what a terrible day. Cheer Chick Charlie is awesome though, I just went and had a lovely look around. Congratulations on the launch and fingers and toes crossed for the award.

Oh that's frustrating!
ReplyDeleteMichelle from Little Hero hosting is a very reliable host. I've hardly had any issues, and when I have, she has been on to them straight away.
I'll echo what Jess said, I host all of our blogging sites through LHH and whenever anything happens Michelle is on top of it straight away. She's AU based (important imo) and a pleasure to deal with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for that advice! Will let my web designer know and she can check it out :)
