Day 1057 - Winter Energy (or lack there-of)

Do you suffer the winter blues?

I know I do.  They say that Australians shouldn't get Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) because we still have so much sunlight during the winter months, but I am pretty sure I get depressed in winter.  So much so that my body switches its pain buttons on, I have absolutely no energy, my brain becomes mushier than normal, I am fatigued a lot of the time, I'm just plain cranky and it requires way too much energy to smile.

If you are a client of mine, or if you see me speak in public, or even if I am your cheerleading coach, you may not realise it.  I can pull myself together for short bursts. But on the whole I am struggling.  The good news this year is that with my Disney junket and then with the Vegas trip I managed to escape the cold for longer periods this winter which has delayed the onset.  I got all the way to August before my winter blues kicked in.  But the last two weeks have been a struggle, and the last few days in particular have been pure torture.   For a chick who is all about the action, action, action and getting things done, this lack of energy and will-power is creating a great deal of internal conflict. All I want to do is curl up in bed and stay there until the warm rays of a summer sun poke me on the shoulder and wake me up in time for Christmas. I am obviously a bear and should be hibernating.

I'm tired. I'm just so tired.  Can someone please wake me when the winter is over?

Want to read more about the winter blues phenomenon in Australia? Here's a funny read on Daily Life. The bloke who wrote this definitely doesn't live in Canberra because we're all about the central ducted heating here, that's for sure.

  1. I would suggest you fly North for some Queensland sunshine, but to be honest the nights are still f-f-f-f-reezing.

I get this so much more as I get older.

  2. I hope that once Spring kicks in you start to feel better.

I love hearing your thoughts! Keep them rolling in :)
