Day 1065 - Beautiful Lengths

Pantene helping women Look Good ... Feel Better.

Beautiful Lengths is an initiative to support cancer sufferers by providing free real-hair wigs to women who have lost their locks to cancer treatment. In only six years Beautiful Lengths has donated over 311,000 pony tails in North America, which has made 24,000 real hair wigs to help women feel good about themselves as they fight their disease.

A little friend of mine in Pennsylvania,  Evelyn (who is only 11 years of age), has already grown her hair and had it cut off twice to donate a 20cm pony tail to the American Beautiful Lengths initiative.  She is proof that even little people can do very big things.

Yesterday Pantene, in partnership with Look Good ... Feel Better, and with Ambassador Naomi Watts at the helm, launched the Beautiful Lengths campaign here in a Australia.

Beautiful Lengths calls on Australian women to make the kindest cut of all and donate their hair. A recent study by Pantene revealed that 90% of Australian women would be prepared to grow and cut their hair to help a friend with cancer.  Pantene will fund the creation of real-hair wigs by helping women grow beautiful hair to donate to the program. The wigs will then be donated around Australia at no cost to the cancer patient.

Did you know that 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with some sort of cancer by the age of 85?  Any one of us could be hit with this disease, and any one of us could end up subject to intensive treatment.  I'm sure we all know someone who has already battled the disease and lost their hair in the process.

On 12 November "National Donate Your Hair" week will kick off across the country and will see hair donation events taking place as women pledge their hair to the Beautiful Lengths cause. Naomi Watts, along with fellow Pantene Ambassadors Zoe Foster and Barney Martin, are encouraging women across Australia to forego their next hair cut and grow, grow, grow (with the help of Pantene products)  in time for the National Donate Your Hair week celebrations.

  1. This is a wonderful project & thanks for promoting it. Having lost my hair, I understand how naked you feel. A synthetic wig is not nice to wear and can make your head quite itchy. On behalf of everyone who loses their hair, thanks in advance to anyone who takes up this challenge

  2. I'd be happy to donate my hair but those women have been through enough already ;-). Seriously thanks for helping to spread the word about such a great cause.
    Love to you

  3. Oh my gosh what an awesome idea!
I was already a fan of Pantene but now even more so. And I only just read Redcliffe Rachel's post and she mentions that short hair is in at the moment. I think it will certainly make it easier to cut off your locks if you know that your hair is going to a good cause.

  4. What a great idea!! Such a great cause!!

  5. This is a fantastic cause! Thanks for sharing. Rachel xx

    #teamIBOT was here x

  6. A great idea. I'm going to investigate further and see what the minimum length is they'd like.

  7. Just wonderful, my daughter had planned to donate hers but it was 2cm too short :(

  8. A cut my hair from down my back to shoulder length a few months ago and a work colleague suggested I try to donate it. I didn't know how or where to do that, and should have asked my hairdresser... It's growing again now though, so won't be long and I'll be ready to cut some off again!
Thanks for sharing this info. I'm in!

  9. I would love to donate a pony tale to this wonderfull cause. Sadly though my hair don't grow very long and the longer I try to grow it, the more brittle it gets.

Good luck to anyone who does donate though.

And Godbless to those who reguire wigs.

  10. This is a wonderful idea. Good to know about this project.

I love hearing your thoughts! Keep them rolling in :)
