Day 1150 - The perfect bun

The perfect Deep Fried bun ....

Kim Kardashian is renowned for her big bun (yes, I said buN).  It's something I've envied for some time given my hair is fine and any bun with volume has had to be teased and created with a whole lot of "air in there" giving it the messy-bun look. Not anymore. Not since my 13 year old stylist Tahlia has introduced me to Kim's secret.  The sock bun.

Got odd socks? Turn odd socks into great hair ...

It's no secret that socks go missing a lot at my house and that I have a basket full of odds.  What used to be the birthing place of many a sock puppet is now the source of fabulous up-dos.

The first thing you need to do is cut the foot out of a sock. Best to choose a sock colour that closely resembles yours ... for blondes choose white, for brunettes choose dark.  I am hacking into a pairless black suit sock ...

Then you roll the tube part of the sock up until it forms a donut.

Simply put your hair into a pony tail in the desired bun location and slip the sock donut over your pony.

Then find the centre of your pony tail and fountain the hair out over the sock donut creating 360 degree coverage.

Wind the hair around the donut in a clockwise position until there is no hair left to wind.  Tuck the ends of your hair under the donut and pin it into place.

And there you have it.  A perfectly voluminous and very elegant bun.

Of course, you could also just go and buy a special "knitted" bun donut from the hair supply shop, but I have heard they are sticky, grabby and pulley.  I reckon they would also get a bit itchy.  And besides, where's the fun in that?
