Day 1191 - The time is now

How often do you make excuses for why now is not the right time?

Every day we make a million little decisions.  We do it as a matter of course without even thinking.  Which way to walk, what to make for dinner, when to hang out the washing, when to pick up the phone, what to wear, which vegetables to buy, what words to say and where to hang a picture frame. The little decisions are easy. They have very little fear attached and don't require too much strategic planning. But then there are the big decisions and that's where timing can be everything.

Yes, those big decisions can keep a person awake at night. Perhaps it is deciding whether to buy a house, go into business, start a family, change jobs, take your family overseas, get married or hire new staff.

Which direction to take isn't always the hard bit. We usually have a fair idea as to which way we're headed.  A mixture of thought, instinct, values and finances comes into play when decisions are being made. Whether or not you want to do these things isn't necessarily the sticking point. You are after all already seriously thinking about them (otherwise they wouldn't be in your head and you wouldn't be laying awake).  It's often the WHEN to carry out the project that holds things up. And so many wonderful experiences never get realised ... because the timing never seems right.

The housing market might not be perfect, you may not have enough savings to bring a baby into the world, you may not have the time to learn a new job, you may have too many commitments to take the time off to travel to Hawaii.  You may not be quite ready to launch a new product line in a foreign land. These are all quite legitimate excuses.

Excuses being the operative word.

Sometimes if you want something bad enough, you've just got to take the bull by the horns and give it a shot! Because if you don't give it a go, you'll be left wondering. And "tomorrow" has this weird ability to never arrive. As Napoleon Hill says "the time will never be just right".

If these things are really important to you, then take a dose of Nike and just do it.

This post comes to you from a piece of Deep Fried Fruit who is taking said bull by the horns and diving into a very deep and distant ocean.  Cheer Chick Charlie is on her way to New York City in a few weeks to scope the market and test the opportunities. Yes, it is scary. Yes, it is costing a lot of money. Yes, the timing sucks.  No, I'm not quite ready. But seriously, if I don't do this now... then someone else will!

The timing will never be just right.  So what's the point in waiting?

Have you got something you could be doing NOW

  1. Oooh! good luck putting yourself out their. The US market is surely made for CheerChick Charlie! Enjoy the journey and relish the experience. Good luck xxx

    Hello from #teamIBOT

  2. My husband and I are the same as each other when it comes to decision making . We make decisions really quickly and then act immediately. I can't handle procrastinating. Rachel xx

  3. This attitude reminds me very much of Seth Godin's "just ship it" philosophy. I love being given permission to do something, try something or launch something even when it is not ready or perfect. All the best for New York - at the very least you will have an adventure in one of the world's best cities.

  4. Yes. I could be trying to put myself out there with my photography but I'm terrified. One of the quotes I love the most is "A year from now you'll wish you started today." That was the approach I took with fitness, I need to take it with photography too. The sooner you start, the sooner you get better at it, right?

  5. How super exciting. You really are an inspiration. For so long I have wanted to do what you are, yet kept thinking the time was never right, I was so wrong. The time is always right. Wishing you and Cheer Chick Charlie all the very best. Fairy wishes and butterfly kisses #teamIBOT

  6. Good luck!!!! I am biting the bullet and saying YES instead of making excuses for things this month..

    #teamIBOT was here :)

  7. Best of luck with Cheer Chick Charlie! Too true, if you don't start sometime, it never gets done.

  8. I should really be trying to get more writing work from home as I'm not sure if my current contract is going to continue, but I'm using the "I barely have time now' excuse. But maybe it's because I'm a little scared about not being able to do it all, and the thought of not coping scares me.
And I wish you all the luck for your new endeavour - there will never be a perfect time, but that is the stuff dreams are made of! Emily :)

  9. Great attitude to have! Good luck on your venture, I need to have more of that attitude!

  10. Good for you! I really hope that the New York trip is a success. We took the bull by the horns and moved from UK to Oz - best thing we ever did!
    Good Luck!
    Popped over from IBOT

  11. What a great post! I love that attitude - Just Do It! Goodluck with the trip!

  12. Great positive post. Wishing you the best of luck!

  13. Very wise, I love that just f@@!"ing do it attitude. Am quite an impulsive person and am lucky to have a sensible, restraining hubby. But it's great to BOLD which it sounds like you are being - go get 'em.

  14. You are so right Leanne about the timing for things never being perfect - you do just have to go out there and do it. And all the best for New York - how very exciting!

  15. Love your attitude Leeanne and I hope Cheer Chick Charlie takes off like a rocket once she gets to New York. If I can help in anyway let me know, though I have no idea how :)

  16. Thank you so much for all your support! It definitely makes me feel more confident.

  17. Yep go for it, you just can't sit and wait for the 'right' time, as it may never come when you are unable to do anything about it.

    Good luck!

  18. Yeah, right now I could be doing my long postponed newsletter but instead I am watching NCIS. Just not the right time right now :D

I love hearing your thoughts! Keep them rolling in :)
