Day 1195 - Happy Birthday Darby

My baby is getting so big!

I still remember going into labour.   It's as clear as day.  (Although it was night.)

I was putting Tahlia into bed and started to feel unwell. My legs went out from underneath me and I couldn't stand. Labour had begun.

We called my folks to come and sit with Tahlia while we went to the hospital. My biggest challenge was doing what I had to do between each contraction, because for some reason when the contractions hit, my legs would lose all muscle control and I would fall down.  We would later discover that Darby had turned so that his spine was against my spine causing me nerve issues. So getting down the stairs was a challenge.  By the time Mum and Dad arrived we were in the car with the engine running and I was starting to hurt.

I won't go into the gory details. You've heard it all before (and you may be eating breakfast). Suffice to say that seven hours later Darby was in our arms.  We had our boy.

Today I am grateful for our boy, for his generosity, his wisdom, his humour, his gorgeous blue eyes, his growing confidence and resilience, and most of all his patience(and trust) when it comes to the extra hours he has to dedicate to overcoming the hurdles dyslexia throws at him. I am particularly grateful that he sits and actually reads his birthday cards.  That in itself is a huge win.

Darby had his party on Thursday (see the run down here).  So today will be a family day at the beach followed by dinner out. He will be surrounded by love.

Happy birthday mate!
