Day 1377 - Ilikai Hotel and Suites

This post comes to you from the land of Aloha

After what seemed like an eternity we finally made it to Waikiki and within two hours of touching down on US soil we were by the pool at the Ilikai Hotel and Suites.

In the past we have stayed in hotel rooms, but this time we booked condos so that we could have our own kitchen, fridge and laundry facilities.  It is for that reason we've ended up at the Ilikai at 1777 Ala Moana Blvd in Waikiki.

Nestled between the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the marina, and only a short walk to the Ala Moana shopping centre it's a great location for quick beach access, eateries, shopping and parks. It's about a 20 minute beach walk into the throng of Waikiki main beach area which means we don't step outside into the "buzz" of tourist Hawaii, but rather a slightly quieter energy that greets us outside.

We booked our suites (three in total) through Waikiki Beach Rentals which means we are renting these with the owner.  As you can imagine this has saved us a great deal of money.  It was an easy process all done on-line with no need to deal with hotel staff at all (if we wish) given we have pin code access to our rooms.

Our suite is owned by a Japanese fellow and is very tastefully decorated with everything we need right down to huge tumblers (for our cocktails), beach towels, hair dryer and full kitchen including a kettle (which is rare to find in US hotels - you usually only find a coffee machine).

The views from our suite are spectacular with the sun going down just off our balcony over the marina.  That made for a pretty cocktail hour last night as we sipped our Mai Tais. Mai Tais poured straight from a ready made Mai Tai bottle which cost a not-so-whopping $9 a bottle! I do not kid.  The bottle gave us at least four giant ice filled tumblers of Mai Tai magic.

Right now we are getting ready for a walk to the Ala Moana Centre.  It's time to scope out the so-much-cheaper-than-Australia make-up in Macy's before we spend more time being lounge lizards around the pool.

I leave you with the view from our room at day and at night.
