Day 1393 - A win

It's a Deep Fried Celebration

Yesterday, after months and months of probing, pushing, hoping, praying and just plain BEGGING (well, not quite ... but almost) we got news from our US based attorney that the trade marks for Cheer Chick Charlie are now moving forward to publication.  Cue huge sigh of relief, closely followed by popping of champagne cork.

Early last year I got all my trade marks in place across a number of classes here in the great ol' land of Oz. I wasn't actually going to push for the US side of things until "down the track" because my business plan called for Aussie domination before we went global. The USA was always on my radar of course, and we planned to head in there this year, we were just going to be a little more "strategic" about our approach.

Things took a turn last November when we discovered that someone had found Cheer Chick Charlie and quite liked the name so decided to tweak it slightly for their own use. Not only did they decide to use the name, they also tried to trademark it for themselves. After a morning of shock mixed with anger mixed with desperation mixed with tears mixed with vomiting, I took the bull by the horns and shouted "HOW DARE YOU" and went into full CEO-of-my-own-company-I'm-gonna-kick-your-arse mode.

To cut a very long story short, we ended up hiring a US based attorney (who we found while at the Toy Fair in New York) and he has been battling away to get our lovely Cheer Chick Charlie name through.  It turns out the other cheer Charlie wasn't overly strategic in their approach and they ran into some brick walls.  We've managed to leap frog over the brick walls to secure our place.

So there you have it! Another little win to add to the growing list of wins. Oh, and the other good news is that it didn't really cost us that much to fight it. Our lovely attorney is semi-retired so gave us his work-from-home rates without all the usual add-ons.  Bonus!

There's still loads to be done of course, and it's not the only CEO-of-my-own-company-let's-win-this-thing battle I'm going to encounter, but it's a great start.

Couldn't think of a better way to start my week.

Happy Monday!
