Day 1438 - Ronald McDonald House Canberra

ACT Cheerleaders raise $4000 for Ronald McDonald House

Handing over the ACT Regional Cheerleading donation to Ronald McDonald House
A year ago a few of the ACT based competition cheer squads got together to create their own cheerleading event to help kids get a turn on the competition floor before the big State Championship Series. About two thirds of the ACT squads competed in 2012.  Fast forward a year and we decided to make this more than just a "practise comp".  The ACT Regional Cheerleading Committee agreed to cheer for a cause.

On the 18th August this year I was heavily involved with the ACT Regional Cheerleading Competition as a coordinator, facilitator, emcee, competitor, coach, vendor and volunteer.  Over 300 athletes attended and every single ACT based competition cheerleading squad competed (including a team who traveled from Goulburn). The money raised at the competition goes to (a) skill ACT based cheerleaders through regional coaching workshops and (b) to Ronald McDonald House in Canberra.

It was with great pride that I presented a cheque for $4000 on behalf of ACT Regional Cheerleading to Ronald McDonald House on Tuesday.  Reps from Heat Cheerleading, Good Shepherd Cheerleading and Sirens Cheerleaders attended a tour of Ronald McDonald House.  Together we were able to see first hand how much this $4000 is needed to continue the great work of Ronald McDonald House.

The ACT Regional Cheerleading Competition is less about cheer squads competing against each other, and more about cheerleaders banding together to create better skill in the ACT and coming together for the greater good of the Canberra community.

We're already in the planning stages for next year.

While I was there I donated some signed books to their library

While we are on the topic of giving, Disney and Deep Fried Fruit have teamed up again for a give-away.  We are giving away THREE Disney Infinity starter packs for PS3.  Woot!

Win, Win, Win

All you need to do is tell me your favourite Disney character.  That easy.  Oh, and be sure to give me enough details to track you down.  The competition is open to Aussie residents only and closes next Friday 20 September at midnight. You can enter via comment here on the blog, Deep Fried FacebookDeep Fried Twitter #DFFInfinity, email or text.  Note: The Disney/Deep Fried Fruit Disney Infinity starter packs are for Playstation 3 only.  But if you don't have a Playstation 3 don't let that deter you from entering.  You could always put it away for a Christmas gift, or trade with a friend, or even give it to your local Ronald McDonald House. Everyone deserves some Disney Infinity in their life.
