Day 1533 - Sunscreen

Are you using enough sunscreen?

According to the medical director at Northern Sydney Dermatology, Dr Liz Dawes-Higg, we need around 9 teaspoons of sunscreen over our body at each application! That's about 45 mls in total.

To get the best coverage Liz suggests we do the following this summer:

  • Apply early and often - slop on the sunscreen about 20 minutes before hitting the outside air and reapply every two hours
  • Coat all over - slop it from the top of your forehead to the soles of our feet.
  • Don't for the head - apparently we need to ensure our scalp and the part in our hair is also covered ... the spray on sunscreen is often easier in these areas
  • Be vigilant with sprays - apply the sprays indoors to avoid the spray being blown away in the breeze during the application process.
Where do all those teaspoons of sunscreen go?  Well one for the fact, head and neck, two for the torso, one for each arm and two for each leg.

Get your measuring spoons out!
