Nah. No time for celebrating. Sorry about that. But we could have a chat about 1600. It isn't just the number of days I've been blogging ... it was also a year. And oh what a fine year it was. Did you know that in 1600 Scotland adopted January 1 as New Year's Day? It was also the first year someone set their eyes on the Falkland Islands. Some dude was burned at the stake that year for heresy in Rome. Huaynaputina Volcano in Peru erupts and it's the worst eruption in the history of South America. And right at the end of that year (the day before Scotland starts celebrating their new found New Year's Day in fact) the East India Company is granted royal charter into the Kingdom of England. Interesting!
It doesn't end there.
Other interesting facts about 1600 include:
- Sumo wrestling becomes a professional sport in Japan
- William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is first performed and his play "The Merchant of Venice" is published
- William Gilbert describes the Earth's magnetic field which is the beginning of geomagnetism.
It's little wonder I can blog for 1600 days straight when I'm rabbiting on about useless facts from over 400 years ago.
It's a pretty decent number though. I like the look of it ...
I wonder what 1700 has in store!
Happy Friday to you (and happy 1600 to me).

Wikipedia, where would we be without it...?(Probably smarter and more informed, instead of lazy & 'close enough')
