It may be the stuff that makes your fingers go yellow when you cook curry but it's also the superstar of today's post. The active ingredient curcumin has strong anti-inflammatory effects which (according to the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine) can be as effective as ibuprofen at treating the pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis. Tumeric is also thought to have anti-cancer effects although that research is still ongoing. They're also suggesting Tumeric might help with IBS! Oh, and of course it is a lovely little antioxident (particularly when it's consumed uncooked). Winner.
Other supplements that can assist with your joints include:
- Glucosamine and chondroitin
- Siberian ginseng
- Evening primrose oil
- SAMe (s-adenosyl methionine)
