Day 1683 - Detox

Tips and tricks for cleansing

As I sit at my desk hunched over my computer looking at the fresh air outside I feel my muscles turning to flab due to lack of exercise.  I have no excuse for lack of exercise other than a shift in priorities.  And the fact that I am tired.  Always so very very tired.  Then I wonder - why am I so tired?  Perhaps a detox is in order? So I researched the whole cleansing thing and found an article on how to live your life so you never have to cleanse.  Sounds like a Deep Fried solution to me ...

Cleansing is the in thing.  I personally have never done it (unless you count drinking copious amounts of water as a cleanse).  But many of the cleanses seem so radical. Nothing but lemons for days, or a diet of green drinks, soup or beetroot.

So I researched this every day solution:

  • Lemons: Start each day with warm water and lemon.  DONE. Already a favourite
  • Drink water all day.  Hydration is essential.  Add cucumber, ginger or herbs to make it feel special. I really must get better at this. 
  • Deep breathe.  The deep breathing eliminates toxins 15 times faster than shallow breathing. Easy. I like breathing. 
  • Become a whole grain person.  The refined carbs from the white stuff spikes blood sugar which is not good for a cleanse.  So if you need to have starchy food then it's best to have whole grains.  Personally, I prefer to eliminate completely.
  • Fibre.  Yep ... gotta keep those bowel movements regular.  Something I personally fail at (too much information?)  If you want to cleanse you've got to poop ... daily. So increase your fibre intake. 
  • Twist your body.  Ooooh, I like this one.  Twisting and turning increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage enhancing detoxification.  So turn on that music and dance people! Let's do the twist ...
  • Sweat.  Sweating rids the body of toxins, plain and simple.  Whether it be cardio or a steam room. Hmmm. This one will be "harder" for me. I don't like to sweat ... 
  • Eat your greens.   Leafy greens like kale, spinach, chard and broccoli are all packed with vitamins and nutrients and phyto-chemicals that do a daily cleanup through your body.  They support the cleansing of the kidneys and liver.  Go green!
  • Keep it fresh.  As much as possible stay away from the packets and stick with food in its natural form.  Processed ingredients make the body have to work harder which can cause inflammation that can make you look puffy and older.  Eeek! So if you want to look fresh you've got to eat fresh.  Simple.
  • Probiotics.  Seventy per cent of our immune system is in our gut so to keep our gut functioning well, we need to ensure we keep it "clean" with probiotics.  
So there you go.  No need to look and feel Deep Fried when  you're on a constant cleanse.

  4. Love these tips! Only thing I would add, is that it is a myth to add fibre to increase bowel movements. More fibre cause constipation. You need more liquid. So another reason to keep up your water intake!
