Day 1772 - Positive Feedback

When was the last time you gave positive feedback?

As a business owner I know how important it is to get feedback. In my line of work I normally only get feedback if it's good which is nice.  Sometimes on You Tube videos we get feedback that is not so good which can be confronting, but for the most part we receive lovely testimonials.  I've noticed though, that when it comes to the service style industries like food, accommodation etc, many many people feel the need to only give negative feedback.  What about all those times the service was good?

You see it online all the time. The need to complain when things are bad, but not taking the time to acknowledge when things are good.

Sometimes I sit and watch people in restaurants and coffee shops and notice that so many people eat and leave.  Did they like the food? The service?  Often the only feedback I see is a complaint "my coffee is cold", "that's not the cake I ordered".  But is the feedback being received by these employees and business owners well balanced?  How many people loved their visit yet walked away?

There's a lot of power in feedback.  Negative feedback can destroy a person. Constructive feedback can give someone the kick up the butt they need to improve.  Positive feedback can empower people. Glowing feedback can give people a reason to keep on going.

I know it's important to let businesses know when they're not performing to your expectations.  But equally it's important to let them know when they are.

When was the last time you took the time to give some positive feedback?

If the coffee you've ordered today is a good one, then let them know.  Take the time to turn around, walk back and say "this is a great cup of coffee".

It's this type of positive energy activator that has a flow on effect that just keeps on giving.

  2. I so agree that we read and hear more negative feedback than good. It's uplifting to hear when you've done a good job. I will be more intentional with giving good feedback now that I've thought about it. :)

  3. I definitely let people know if they've done a good job, and will go out of my way to tell them.
    I know how hard it can be to get good service these days, and the good ones really do stand out.
    I think it helps a business find their balance if they know what they're doing, good or bad.

  4. Totally agree Leanne! I always give positive feedback at a restaurant or cafe if I have enjoyed a meal or coffee etc. I rarely give negative feedback because I prefer positive experiences. However, there was one occasion when I was served raw chicken and had to speak up. I also think it is nice to give positive feedback to people just generally in life. Give someone a lift! Tell them that their hair looks nice or you love their outfit. It can make such a difference to a persons day. :-) xo

  5. Couldn't agree with you more! As someone who works in Education and spent many years teaching and working with teachers giving positive feedback is core business for us! What you focus on you create, so if we are always focussing on the negative all we get and think is more negative!!

Hmmm, can't remember the last time I gave positive feedback for coffee, but we had to have a panel of glass replaced recently and I was so impressed I jumped straight on FB and left a message on their FB page praising them. This is a great post Leanne. Next time I'm having coffee or eating out and have an enjoyable experience I will be sure to let them know :)
