Peanut satay Image stolen from the Kangong website You'd think after many weeks of the same Monday meal I'd have thought to take a photo. But no .... |
There are a lot of nights at our house that are a bit disjointed because of extracurricular activities. It used to be that we had to fit around Tahlia's cheerleading. But with Tahlia no longer cheering, Darby has taken over with his tutoring, martial arts and basketball, and Daddy has added his basketball and bowling.
Monday night's are tutoring first, then it's kung fu time.
There's about an hour window between the two.
That makes me lazy in the kitchen.
Hell, who am I kidding, I'm always lazy in the kitchen ...
That makes me lazier in the kitchen.
So Monday night has become stir-fry night. It's always chicken and there's usually broccoli and capsicum involved. There is often some cauliflower snuck in with the occasional zuccini and perhaps some peas from time to time. The key ingredient though is the jar of Kantong.
Our favourites are butter chicken, peanut satay and pineapple sweet and sour. Each one served on a bed of nutty brown rice.
Believe it or not this is not a product review. Kantong nor their PR peeps have anything to do with this post. It's just a statement of fact.
Monday night is stir-fry night.
Do you have certain days that are assigned a particular evening meal?
Funny you should mention this, I have been wondering if I can somehow bring routine into the kitchen. Or at least meal plan. That would be a start. I knock up whatever is in the fridge and I just wonder if my brain would thank me if I had certain nights for certain things or get planning in on it?
ReplyDeleteWednesday night is sushi night cos the kids have to eat dinner in the car, as there is no break until bedtime...I hate Wednesday afternoons/evenings
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you won't be surprised to hear my answer is no - that anything goes, except Friday is always EASY PEASEY night!
ReplyDeleteMonday night is always something easy, usually involving the rice cooker. Bell's at school until 5.30 with her art workshop, then tennis at 6.30, so it needs to be something I can prepare in advance.
ReplyDeleteSaturday is sushi and family movie night. I love a bit of routine :)
For us Saturday night is a roast night and Sunday night is leftovers or toasted sandwiches.
ReplyDeleteMonday night is spaghetti night, and friday is date night. All the others change sporadically.
ReplyDeleteI do feel a bit stuck in a rutt food wise though. I want to change things up.
Oh gosh no!! I am a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants-and-what's-in-the-pantry kind of girl!! #Team IBOT
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. We have after-school activities Mon/Tues/Wed and that means (but not set in stone for a particular night) tacos, burgers and ravioli. We bigguns skip the ravioli though ;) #teamIBOT
