Day 1865 - Boost your bone strength

Fact:  I don't consume enough calcium.

According to the September issue of the Australian Women's Weekly nine out of ten Aussie women aged between 19 and 49 years don't get enough calcium into their bodies for good bone health.  I am one of them.  It's time to make a change!

To boost bone strength it is suggested that we:

  • increase our daily serve of calcium by hitting the dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese
  • take regular walks or do some weight-bearing exercise such as resistance training or yoga
  • spend a good amount of time outside to absorb vitamin D from direct sunlight as vitamin D is also essential for good bone health.
Given my bones ache and creak (my knees! my knees!) I am going to now be paying more attention to my calcium consumption.  

Interesting fact:  When I tried to donate plasma (twice) I had a reaction during the retrieval process which suggested I was low on calcium.  Yes ... I WILL be doing something about it ... 

I'm off to have a glass of milk!
